I did put extra grease int the bearings as I don't foresee turning the thing upside down for some time! But they are well-made, no excess play, free-moving and strong.

They mean there are “free” nuts and bolts to fit the wheels to whatever you are using

Do they move well on thick carpet?

Sorry, I don’t know, as these casters were purchased for a work bench in my garage. Can only say the size of the wheel you should not have a problem.

Do these still few strong when screwed on rather than bolted?

If you screw them into good solid surface. Mine are screwed onto the bottom of s wooden filing cabinet which is wheeled across wood flooring. Carpet would mean more drag.
