As advertised
Really nice shears. I have heard good things about this for awhile. As a first responder I have been in many situations where I have needed shears. I have used the Raptor shears from Leatherman for the past 4 years. I wanted to give this a try because my raptors broke and had to be sent out for repairs (replacement). I like that these feel just as sharp as raptors and will still cut just about anything. They are comfortable in the hand and the ends are rounded so won't inadvertently jab a hole in your pants. You can also get a separate holster for it. If you are looking for something simpler than the raptors, this is a fantastic option!

Cuts like a lightsaber, THE choice if you need shears without extra toys
These are the best shears I've used in eight years as an EMT and several months as a med student in the ED. They're sharp, well machined, and have tight tolerances to keep cloth and zippers from getting stuck between the blades like can happen with cheaper designs. For me, the choice was between XShears and Raptors, which cost twice the price. I chose these for a few reasons, beyond the price difference. The Simpler design is slicker, making it easier to slide into pockets and much easier to sanitize after being covered in blood or cast-plaster.The steel used in these, 420J2, is a corrosion resistant blade steel, much like the 420hc used in the Raptors. Both are legitimate blade steels and likely much better than what's used in other shears, but neither would be considered "high end" if used in a knife. In this application, both should be roughly equivalent in holding an edge, and both should do an excellent job resisting corrosion, with the XShears' 420J2 having a possible lead in that regard. After using these for three or four months, they seem just as sharp as they were on day one.I'm quite happy with the XShears. If you need a pair of trauma shears, or just excellent, heavy duty scissors, these will serve you well. If you feel you need a pair that can open oxygen tanks, cut seatbelts, and have multiple uses, I still think these have a lead over the competition, without needing extra bells and whistles (the back side can pinch the O2 valve to open it, and if you can't cut seatbelts with these in your hands, the deficiency is not in the tool).

A true work horse...
I have owned these shears now for about three months and I can say without a doubt they are the best thing I have bought myself for work in the twelve years I've been working in EMS. I work in a fairly busy urban area and run a lot of calls during my 60ish hour work weeks. There has not been a single thing so far these shears cannot cut through without ease. Clothing is like cutting through paper, tough leather boots don't stand a chance, and makes fairly short work of even bunker gear (don't worry it was a scrap during a training exercise! :P)I was skeptical because I have used other co-workers raptors, and I'll be honest I hate them. I thought it was a HUGE waste of money, and I cannot stand the fold to close design. My partner also thought they were a waste of money, her first words to me were "Why did you buy shears when work hands them out like candy?" The difference is immeasurable, if you've only used the cheapos from your service or the handouts during EMS week then you will be in for a huge surprise.Build quality is amazing, the first thing people are in awe of is the weight and heft. They just feel great in the hand, they don't feel like they're going to break when you cut through something tough, and the open and close is just tight enough to feel great. As another review mentioned you really feel none of the added resistance closing them because the blades just slide through things like a hot knife through butter. If I could improve on this design it would be to add a window punch, I do have to get a separate window punch and carry that on me in case we're beating fire to the scene and need one. I would also like to see them offered in more colors. Other than those two suggestions I can't think of a single thing to improve these shears.

THE best trauma shears I have ever owned!
First off, I was hesitant to throw down $43 for a pair of trauma shears, but I had gone through all of my free pairs from EMS conferences and my local community College. A few of the "free" shears were new and already dull and they broke with the force it took to cut through just one side seam on a pair of thick blue jeans. I am a nurse and EMT and I bought these shears in hopes that they may very well be the last pair I have to buy. These shears are sharp enough to cut delicate bandaging gauze like cutting through hot butter but rugged enough to cut up a pair of thick quilted Carhart overalls. I believe these shears might be indestructible and quite possibly the last pair I will ever have to buy! To find a pair of trauma shears that are precise enough to use as bandaging scissors in a pinch and then use the same pair to cut through a thick pair of overalls is unheard of, but this is truly a utilitarian tool. Well worth the $$$!!! Great product!!!Matthew D. Calfee LPN, EMT-B

BEST in the field
I have used trauma sheers for over 20 yrs and these hands down are the best. Simple, rugged design, that fits in bunker gear pockets and scrub pockets easily without getting lost. Cuts through pretty much everything I have thrown at them and remains intact. Comfortable in the hand, and with gloves. Bonus, very easy to clean, no hidden little crevices for gross stuff to hide in.

Wish there was a tension feature
Awesome scissors. Heavy, sturdy, sharp, good grip, nice shape. I wish that the tension could be adjusted, because they feel a bit stiff to open and close for my liking. If I loosen them at all, they pretty much fall apart. But other than that, well made.
