My recipe says these seeds give the most flavor if they are ground immediately before using, and it's worth the effort to grind them for making Mahleb bread. That's essentially a sweet bread with this seed for a special taste treat.

Mahleb arrived quickly and was very fresh with good aroma.4 It’s very hard to find the seeds in adequate amounts elsewhere.

Mahlab is an unusual spice and the best version comes from the Middle East - Syria, which is at war right now so getting a suitable substitute is tough. This spice dose a real good job. The only problem I had at first is adding or determining the correct amount to add. I had to add a "bit" more than I used to as this spice was a "tad" weaker that I was used to but once I got that, things went well.

These were super fresh and delicious in my recipe. It was nice to get this quantity because usually it's a tiny quantity and I have to buy two to make the Easter cookies.
