Pros:Great finish, the hard cover is delightful. The content is also great, explaining not only the aspects of tolkien's stories but the references (many of them are from the nordic mythology).Cons:The pages are too thin and they are yellow also. This combination plus monochromatic illustrations makes difficult to understand what is happening in the sketches at the first sight. Since the draws are important to me, I almost sent that back and requested a refund, but in the end, the content caught me.

Canterbury Classic Collection. Affordable and good quality.

I bought this to act as a sort of companion book while I read The Hobbit and the LOTR, and despite the hardcover being very nice looking and feeling on the outside, the contents are very underwhelming. There are plenty of words, locations and characters you will read about along the journey through Tolkien's work that just cannot be found in here. "Encyclopedia" is a loose term.As for the art, it is simply too abstract, dark and Gothic for Tolkien's world. It works fine when in reference to inspirations from mythology, but not for the actual contents of Tolkien's work.
