The pictures seem to indicate there are two different blade handles. Is this the case?

No, just one cheaply made blade handle. The one I received, the blades don't fit. I had to force the blade onto the handle and part of it did fit. Now I have a hard time getting that blade off the handle. Also, it's not rust-proff, the stucked blade has rusted.

Can the handle be autoclaved and reused?

Yes it can be autoclaved. A little difficult for blade insertion on the handle. Otherwise works well.

does blade have protective cover

No and should particularly with the poor design of this equipment where it is very hard to attach the blades,

The handle is 5 in. or 12.5 cm long. The blades add a little more depending on style you get.
