This is a great saw. Easy to use and it's lightweight and compact.
I really like Makita products and have a set of batteries for other Makita tools. This saw is compact and lightweight which works well for me, as heavier saws are hard to hold. It does the job too, cutting through thin material easily and also heavier wood. I only used it on 2x4s so far, so not sure how well it will do on really thick material, however I always have my corded saw for that. The battery I have has not diminished after several hours of intermittent use putting up wall board, so I am happy with that aspect. I love that it is compact and cordless which makes it a very versatile saw! This particular saw did not come with the original box which was not important to me, but if you want the box and the plastic box that most tools come with, this is not for you. I did not realize that it did not come with the original box. It was very well packed and did include the instructions and a fence, which was fine for me. Not sure why the description did not mention the original box wasn't included. That said, I am happy with this saw and believe that Makita products are good, so not a problem.

Makita is the brand you NEED
The media could not be loaded. I’m the kind of person that doesn’t mind having different name brand construction equipment or tools. But when I used my Makita it was game changing. The size of the saw makes it easy to store and travel with. The cut quality is cookie cutter perfect, which makes the use easier. As for dust collection, it does the job in keeping the saw dust away from your face and where you are cutting. But saw dust can form if not dusted after multiple uses (nothing major). And lastly, the Makita strength and power is amazing. Unfortunately this Makita does not come with the bundle of the battery and charger but once purchased and combined it shows the great quality the product is. Here is a video of me using Makita on a piece of siding.

Lightweight and Accurate
Been doing some shed repairs-cutting siding and 2-bys, this saw is so light compared to the old 14 lb. Skil saw i had. Being so lightweight, it's around 7 lbs i believe, it's a welcome relief to use. It makes accurate and square cuts. Rips nice, I used an aluminum yardstick, screwed down, as a guide. It is easy to one-hand and make accurate cuts using a speed square as a guide on 2x material. Since it was new, I checked all my cuts with a machinists square and they were all square and repeatable. I was quite surprised. It doesn't like being put in a bind tho...bogs down quickly. Also, it's light weight deceives one into believing it's cheaply-made. I doubt it could survive drops from elevations and it's only been used for saw horse cutting. I've used it for crosscuts, miters on 2x boards and ripping. It's done it all well. The price is reasonable for the tool-only.I wish the visibility of the blade-to-cutting line was better and the saw dust discharge was directional.I wouldn't use it to frame a house or build a deck with heavy materials, but for 95% of what i need it's quick to grab and use and make accurate cuts.Happy with my purchase.

Great saw for the price
I have used the big brother model (XSH03Z) daily for 6 years before I dropped it for the millionth time and it finally broke. (base plate and depth gauge broke, motor is still fine). It's without a doubt a wonderful saw.I just got this one in the mail and I tested it out on a couple of 2x4. It has the same nice ergonomics, fairly low sound level and cuts very well. I will however return it and get another XSH03Z because to me personally the lower blade speed (3700 vs 5000 RPM) and the slow (about 1s-2s) rewind of the blade after a cut makes for an inferior cutting experience (and slightly inferior cut quality). One thing that I will say is pretty annoying is that both these models are top heavy and therefor easily tips over and rolls away if you're not careful. I drop mine all the time but it has always held up, but it is indeed a very annoying aspect.I'm sure it's a lovely saw and perfect for people without stupid hang-ups like me. For the price ($107 as of August 2024) it's an awesome first saw.

Your next circular saw
Are you one of those guys that gets satisfaction from doing a job well and enjoy the feeling of finally having the right tools to make sure that happens? This is one of those tools. I typically carry my corded circular saw, miter saw and a table saw when I'm working in the field, because I never knew what I will run into doing commercial carpentry. Other battery saws just couldn't be trusted to cut clean and/or have the battery life required. Until I picked up this saw. It's my go-to tool for damn near every cut and my truckload is about 300 pounds lighter. It's quieter than DeWalt, cuts straighter than Milwaukee, cuts stronger than both and I trust the batteries to get me through the day.Bonus points...The little guide that it comes with actually does what it's designed to do with ease. So it didn't get thrown away with the box.The blade it comes is okay for a little framing work, but I advise you to purchase Diablo saw blades that match the type of cutting you'll be doing. They're the best in my opinion.

Years Later I still use it
I purchased this saw with other Makita products in 2017, that’s ~ 7 years ago, and I still use it around the house.Still, 7+ years it still works great. It’ll rip thru a 2x4 easily, plywood is no problemThis is light enough to always be my first choice. You don’t have to unwind power cords ( and put them back up), the battery stays charged a long time, charges quickly, lasts a long time.I just looked at the current price, and if someone offered me that for mine, I wouldn’t sell it, i.e. I’m still glad I bought it.
