Can you use it in saltwater?

I do use mine in Saltwater. However, afterward I rinse it off with fresh water and oil it more than I normally would do. So Far, it has held up well. That being said, saltwater is very hard on any equipment, and at this price point, I deem it worth the risk. Hope this helps

where is this reel made?

It's made in Malaysia. Lower priced Shimano baitcasters are usually not made in Japan.
