Smartpool WWS421P Sunheater Solar Pool Heater
Just got this running on our 24 Ft round above ground pool. The water went from 70 degrees to 90 degrees in 5 days!! We are also using a solar cover on the top of the pool. The water coming out of the heater didn't seem very warm and we were a little skeptical about how well it would work at first. But after 5 days, we were really surprised how much at warmed our pool. We built a mounting rack, and plumbed them about 60 feet from the pool with 1 1/2" PVC. We plumbed it a little different than the instructions. Used a T fitting on the water line between the filter and the return line, and installed a valve to control input flow to the heater. Then had the return line from the heater with it's own return line back to the pool. We just plumbed PVC pipe to go over the top rail and it returned heated water to the pool under the deck that hangs over one side of the pool. This way we can turn off flow to the heater on cold days when the filter needs to be running. They will need to be mounted to something!! They are 2 feet by 20 feet of plastic that comes in a roll. The picture shows them mounted to a rack with a mounting kit (neither are included) Pretty flimsy out of the box. But with several trips to home depot, we made our own rack and mounting kit. And lots of extra plumbing supplies were needed for out setup. So there will be additional cost to get this setup and running. But I am very happy with the performance of it now that we got it going. But overall, I am very pleased with the performance of this Solar Pool Heater

Leak when hooked it up. Hole in tube
Decent quality except for the home in the tube. Takes awhile to unbox and roll out as it's stiff. EXTREAMLY hard as just 1 person. Once flat in sun takes a few hours and flattened out nicely. Not sure on how well it heats yet, other than the hole/leak it's decent.

It really works
You have to plumb it in and have a strong enough pump but it absolutely raises the temperature. My pool is 10000 gallons and it will raise the temperature 6-10 degrees from morning to afternoon. It has to be sunny and I am in Florida. It has added about 4 months of pool use for us.

Actually Works!
Imagine my surprise when I finally hooked this up and it REALLY works! It doesn't help that this summer in the Northeast has been mostly cloudy and rainy, as this product needs direct sunlight for 4-5 days to actually warm the water, but it does. Now, it's not going to be like bathwater, but it WILL warm the water to where it's not ice cold. We have 1 package (2- 2'x20' panels) I can only assume that next year, if I hook up 2 more of the panels it will be even warmer, but this product does a satisfactory job so far. We also have a solar pool cover that helps keep the warmth in.

It's cheap
Doesn't come with any mounting hardware. I also can't find for sale anywhere the part number in the pictures. I fabricated a similar part to what they had shown. Also came with one pinhole leak that I fixed with JB weld. Also the fittings take WAY more telfon tape than they should. It's as if they are not made to spec for that pipe fitting size....

Getting them flat was difficult, but afterwards they heated up the pool to where it was too warm!
Took a bit of time to install, they come rolled up and to get them to flatten out required laying them in the sun with rocks on them for a few days before they were manageable. But after they were installed, this 110+ degree heat made them overheat the water! I had to remove one so that the pool wasn't like bathwater. But they are excellent! A must have for any outdoor pool!

Brand new out of box had leaks that had to be fixed with screws to use.
I have went through four individual solar heaters, the first two were purchase separately and one was split and manifold, the other had two leaks on runners. I purchase these two as a set assuming I just had bad luck with the first ones, and personally supervised unpacking and installation, Had leaks and had to cut runners out of system and per manufacturer patch with screws to plug passageway. They need to perform some type of pressure test at the factory as three out of the four leaked, and one was completely unrepairable.

Not worth it
So wasn’t easy to hook up and get leaks sealed. It’s been running for weeks and although we’ve had an usual cool spring here in Missouri, my neighbors pool is the same temp without a heater. Here it is June and the water was only 77 today. Disappointed and it’s beyond return date. It took time to get this installed considering weather and husband working a lot of hours. I think this thing should work better! I don’t know how some people are saying it heated their pools so much.
