Common names for species in this genus include fairy lily , rainflower , zephyr lily, magic lily , Atamasco lily, and rain lily. The generic name Zephyranthes literally means " flowers of the west wind ", from Greek ζέφυρος (zéphuros, an Anemoi) and ἄνθος (anthos, 'flower').
