Butterfly Paperback – Bargain Price, August 16, 2010

Absolutely gorgeous Book, and would have been happy to give this to my sister for Christmas, but the book is completely damaged. The binding is loose from the pages and the pages almost feel like they may have gotten wet. Most unfortunate, as this has been in the box since I ordered it and now a few days before Christmas, I’m wrapping gifts and find this un-giftable mess, with no time to return and exchange.

Using as a coffee table book. Looks way more expensive than it is

The content in the book itself is a work of art.The photos of Gods creation, the Buttetflies are so amazing.What a wonderful artist God is.Although I ordered a new book the seller sent me a used book. I was not happy with this deception. I contacted Amazon.com and they took excellent care of me in refundingall my money within just a day or so. Although I would have loved to receive a new book instead. They did all they could for me because there were not any new books in stock.

Although the glorious photographs in this book easily qualify it for coffee table use, it is considerably more than that both in the organization of the book and in the information that is provided. The butterflies are grouped by function rather than species, so that the reader is shown the various ways a butterflies develops, propagates the species, adapts to varied surroundings. The photos beyond being beautiful are highly informative; really it's difficult to comprehend that one man's eye and camera could take in all this information and beauty and present it so perfectly, at the same time providing succinct important information about each photo in the captions-- about amazing butterflies throughout the world. It's a book to be picked up time and again.

As someone who loves butterflies, I have bought 20 more books of butterflies, and this one might be the most beautiful among them. All the photos of this book are catched from live creatures, not from dead specimen. Marecent's photo style is close up catch, with excellent details & delicacy. The beauties the colors of butterflies are also well expressed.You can also learn some knowledge of butterflies through reading the footnotes of the photos. If you want me to say something bad about this book, I would say there are too little photos of birdwinds butterflies according to my personal favour. If you are finding book of beautiful photos of butterflies, this is the one !!

I purchased this book before Christmas for my wife who is painting. It had only good reviews, so I was hoping to get a nice book. I purchased on Amazon before with average ratings above 4.5, just to be disappointed when I got them.This book truly deserves 5 stars, not only for the pictures who are outstanding, but also for the text. The book does not try to turn you into an expert - it is easy to read. I myself are involved in Macro Photography and it is a great inspiration to me. Wholly recommended!!!

The pictures where nice, but the book had some silver writing which bleed onto the opposite page. Apparently the book was given to someone marking an occasion and the writing were best wishes and congratulations. Of course it was used, but it was more writing than I expected. I use the book for an artists' photo reference and it was fine for that.

I am an Artist and use Thomas Marent's photographs for the exquisite detail he captures. This book is wonderful for any butterfly enthusiasts eager to take in the colour & form that the butterfly emanates. Photo's come with written information on the species and the butterfly's transformation process. I recommend this book that is of high quality.

I was looking for a book with decent photographs of masses of butterflies from throughout the world, and chose this book primarily on the basis of all of the highly positive reviews on Amazon. I'm not sure this book was exactly the book for which I was looking. The photography is highly professional and there is some informative and interesting text.Much of the emphasis is upon extreme close ups of butterflies, which as the author notes is his especial photographic preference. I didn't realise before purchase that the book actually contains 70+ pages of photos from egg, pupa, chrysalis to caterpillar (again in intense close up). If close ups and caterpillars are your thing, then look no further, this is the book for you.

A VERY impressive collection of high-quality photographs of LIVE butterflies - mostly as found in their natural habitat. But not JUST a very beautiful coffee table book; the short bits of text actually are very informative and I BET you never knew all these little secrets about butterflies and moths - and their host plants... Really worth it; you will never tire of this fascinating book!

Full of wonderful photographs that succeed in capturing something of the glory of these delicate jewels of nature, with plenty of information on the development, lifesycle and habitat.

A BEAUTIFUL BOOK, MORE COFFE TABLE BOOK THAN TEXTBOOK, BUT VERY EDUCATIONAL FOR ALL THAT. THE FOUR STAGES OF LIFE THAT THESE CREATURES GO THROUGH SHOULD ENTHRAL THE CASUAL READER AND MAKE IT VERY LIKELY THAT A MORE SERIOUS STUDY MIGHT BE COMMENCED.

Beautiful book, lovely layout and easy but interesting to read :D
