Great book for actors! Every actor should have it

This book is essential to anyone aspiring to be any kind of actor. The process can be applied across all genre's. I am a student at Ivana Chubbuck's studio in LA, and I have to say that even though I benefit from her actual physical presence and face to face teaching, I couldn't imagine not having the book. It's kind of like our bible (pardon my blasphemy). I have gifted this book to my actor friends who live outside LA, and it has been received well.So, what is this book without my close personal bias? In short, it's a step by step practical way that shows you how to get the most out of your scene study. Step one leads you into step two, and so on and so forth. And then as a bonus, there are also chapters that give you step by step ways to effectively act out certain circumstances like dying, being drunk, or being high, etc.Step by Step people! This book is practical! It's not full of theoretical ethereal bull poo poo. It's tried and tested.

i love everything about this book the examples the fact that i’ve watched many of the movies mentioned and can go through the process as a main cast actor would. such a great read

Got this for my hubby and he absolutely loves this book he said it has so much info and def gave him some encouragement to follow his passion.

I like this book. I bought it because I'm taking her classes next month and you're supposed to read this before you start.I like it because it BREAKS things down, it's a great process and Ivana is clearly very smart.It's missing a star because sometimes, I'd get lost. There are a lot of name-drops / examples of celebrities she's worked with, and while I can understand her reasoning for doing that, it was just too much information for me. I wish it was just an example instead of making it more complicated and cluttered by adding the names of celebrities and what she did to work with them. (I have ADHD and it's hard for me to focus and hold attention, so maybe this is just me.

Words are smooth she's very real easy to understand

This author is also my acting teacher’s mentor who also studied under her. It’s very informative and the techniques are helpful and useful.

I read this book 8 months ago.At first, I wasn’t really into the SUBSTITUTION branch of acting; I preferred the IMAGINATION one.But now, after more personal and professional growth, I can say that THIS is one of the books that can truly change your acting craft.In this guide, Chubbuck details a 12-STEP TECHNIQUE, and ALL of these elements are helpful.She also explains a lot about HUMAN BEHAVIOR, mainly from the "power dynamics" perspective.She combines acting with a psychoanalytical approach, so...I wholeheartedly recommend it! :)

I cannot comment on the actual book myself because I did not read it but this was a gift for my mum who is in the acting world.This really helped her with different techniques and strategies to get into character for different parts.She has applied this book to some of her audition tapes, and she said she has found it very helpful as well as an interesting read.

Received in fair condition with markings and underlining in pencil, The book itself is essential a method of script analysis that builds on other acting techniques. Highly recommended

Absolutely the best technique for your craft. Studied with her and recommend this book to any actor. Great for referencing and for honing your skills. To train with Ivana would be ideal yet some cannot travel to her classes on a readily basis, hence utilising her book as an alternative.
