Great book for 1st time GSD owners
I've just got this book early today, and now I can't stop reading it. As a first time GSD owner myself, I found this book he extremely easy and fun to read. The information is just about right amount and answers every question I have. It also explores and analyzes the canine psychology for their normal and bad behaviors as they development through the life span. After you understand puppy psychology, you don't even need to memorize the solution to correct a specific unwanted behavior, the solution just comes up to you automatically. I feel like an dog behavior expert after reading this book, and it definitely helps me become more confident in raising up my puppy. Would recommend this book to all who are new to the GSD breed.

INFORMATIVE!!! Well worth the cost!
My puppy was already 3 months old when I purchased this book--but I went back and the information was spot on for the first 3!It is the best source of concise information I have gotten yet for this breed.I was already into some of the behaviours with my puppy and the book told me the how and why and what to do to handle them!Instead of saying "what the heck is going on" and "how will I deal with this/" I can say--"oh,yeah , I was wondering when that would show up" and "this is what I need do."I took my 4 month old --57 pound--5" 2' German Shepard puppy on his first public outing yesterday. Using the tips from this book prior to the trip and using them in Pet Smart, I came away with a positive experience and the folks at Pet Smart loved the "little guy". I walked out with a dog I was proud of instead of skulking away vowing never to return. The advice and tips in this book are INVALUABLE and I will use it on going with my dog.

Helpful informaiton, no photos.
Good information. I like being able to go to the specific month and cry when I'm being chewed by my piranha. haha. No, it has good information and when applied with information from other books & the internet it's great. GSD's are a breed apart for sure and having confidence in raising them is key to having a stable, well balanced non-aggressive maniac in your home... and I mean me when the dog is not behaving well. Okay, I'm being silly but seriously the book is really good and helps you to know and understand some of the weird things going on with your dog.The only negative - where are the photos? I am a visual person and like to see approx. what I am up against insofar as size is concerned. My wee little fluff ball is only 3.5 mo. old. when she bites it seems like she has three heads but really she only has one. The knowledge is good but like all other books on dogs I would say compliment this with competent online learning. There are a lot of good sources out there and a lot of bad ones so a book like this helps you when you need to discern good from poor instruction. But seriously... no photos? That stinks.

your german shepherd puppy
This is one the best books on taking care of a german shepherd puppy from the day you get it until it grows up into an adult dog. The book is very comprehensive and covers everything from choosing a puppy, vaccinations, diseases internal parasites, health problems, feeding the puppy- nutrition, training, grooming, taking it to the vet and protecting the puppy and talking to your puppy so it bonds with you and teaching him and helping him learn all the rules so he doesn`t mess up your house. This book teaches you everything you need to know how to raise a healthy and happy german shepherd puppy

Excellent Book
We got our GSD in April at 11 weeks. Now he's 5-1/2 months and wish we had this book sooner. Of the many things I like is that the author seems to have uncanny insight into the behavior of GSDs. In reviewing the 3 and 4 month chapters I thought maybe the author knew our puppy. The book is very good, and the training approach is very straight forward.

Most infromative book I have ever read on German Shepherds growth stages
I have had 5 shepherds over the years. They have all been wonder friends and I miss them all. However after reading the German Shepherd Month by Month I have learned about the manyerrors I made in training them. If I would have known the various stages they go thru month bymonth, training wouldhave been easier And my wonderful guys would have had a much better, happier puppyhood. They actually had to do a lot of self training when they became adults. My new friend will be bornapprox. Dec. 15. I will have him about valentine day. He will have a much easier and happierpuppyhood because of this wonderful, informative book. I plan on keeping the book on breakfastroom table with a book mark marking the month he is. And post on fridge a list of the important issuesof that month for a reminder. There will be no scolding, just distraction from things he shouldn't doand a lot of praise and love.

Great Resource
Since there was a 12 year gap between my last GSD and my new puppy I decided that a little "reminder course" would be a good idea. This book was the perfect resource; it is well-written and all-inclusive in general puppy information and breed specific topics. I would recommend that anyone who is considering bringing a GSD puppy into their home purchase this book ahead of time so you are aware of your responsibilities as a GSD owner, the characteristics of a GSD, and how to handle the early life and energy of your new GSD.

Very Helpful!
We recently adopted a young German Shepherd and altho we had had adults before we had never had a puppy. We found this book very helpful as it gave us milestones and traits to look for by month. Plus we really appreciated the positive approach for training.
