One of the best hair care purchases I've made
One of the best hair care purchases I've made! I am balding on top but thick hair all around the sides. I keep my head shaved. I got tired of the time and expense of shaving to the skin, so tried these. I have used various other clippers and shavers in the past with mixed effect. I've even used other Wahl products (which have always been solid products) but I love these best. It won't get you "slick" but basically equal to one night's growth (which blends in well with my "5 o'clock shadow"). I love it! I can go weeks before needing to clip again and if I do need to go slick, I easily clip grown out hair with the Wahl 5 star balding clippers to a perfect height for my electric razor to finish off in no time. For those that say it cuts, you have to be a at specific angle and pushing hard (usually repeatedly in one spot) for this to occur. They probably do not stretch the skin either, which is how you stay safe and get a better clip anyway. I nicked myself once but it was extremely minor and I was rushing (with a sweaty head). Within 30 mins you couldn't tell a thing. Use as directed and there is no issue. It is perfectly fine for home use or professional, very reliable, very sturdy, and easy to maintain. It paid for itself in 3 clips. I do advise cleaning the skin before use to prevent bumps or razor burn. And like all quality clippers, you have to oil and keep them clean. The only draw back may be the cord but it is plenty long enough and allows for a powerful clip so for me it is a non-issue. If you don't want a bald cut, they do offer multi-length options that are very good. I have used them in the past and prefer Wahl to Conair or others of its type. The others aren't necessarily bad, (I had a conair clipper for years) I just seem to have better luck with cuts and quality with Wahl. My advice, buy them and pair it with a Braun Series 7 (or above) electric shaver for your face (and those days you need to go slick)! Great clippers, just know what you're buying.
I have been buzzing my head bald since 2001. I've used cartridge razors, safety razors and the consumer grade clippers you can get at the various "marts" since that time. My current Wahl brand consumer clippers were ready to go after three years, to be honest I could have probably just replaced the blade, but I decide to go up a level. Also I have no need for the various sized combs or the fade lever that comes with most clippers / kits. The lever is a bother to me as I just want it on the shortest setting all the time anyway. These balding clippers looked perfect. No lever and close cut. The close cut thing was less important to me than the no lever, but I'll take it. To be honest, the bad reviews showing burns and cuts had me concerned. When I got the clippers I became even more concerned with the very fine short teeth on the guard. Enough so that I ordered a set of "5 star series" standard blades before even trying the clippers. I fingered for a few dollars more I'd have better clippers with no lever and blades I was used to. Well, I gave it a go anyway with the balding blades. Perfect. No problems at all. Sharp, fast, close cut. All the fuss can clearly be chalked to a few things. Not taking the time to carefully adjust the blades before use and not maintaining proper blade angle with no to very little pressure when cutting. Critically important. The "for professional use only" disclaimer is posted for a reason. The manufacturer is expecting you know what you are doing and will take the time to use and maintain the clippers properly. For that expectation they have limited and or removed performance killing safeties and specifications found on lesser grade clippers that help prevent the general consumer from hurting themselves. I will keep the standard blades when they come in. I like the closer cut well enough, but I actually prefer a little less of a skin look. The standard blades will provide the length I'm used to. The balding blades are great if you want that very close cut. It's honestly very close, like two days after going at your head with a blade close. Enough about that. The rest of the clippers, motor, body, cord, handling are all top notch. These will last. You can feel the extra power of the upgraded motor. There is a gyroscopic effect not there on the consumer grade clippers. Very fast clean cut. I recommend them, but only if you can maintain the measure of personal responsibility needed when using a sharp cutting instrument, that can hurt you if misused, against your bare skin...
