The 173 Quad Gate/Multiples is an essential utility module for my system. I use it on almost every patch. The thing is that the multiples appear to be active and not passive as they might imply. For instance, when I plug the trigger from the MIDI into one input then two outputs to envelope triggers, I discovered something. If the source doesn’t go into the very first input on the left of the row, only one EG will trigger. I got quite frustrated until I figured out why one EG wasn’t working. Therefore, keeping that in mind, any time you want multiples, use the source on the far left jack. Also, this will not work to gang oscillators. Even using the source on the left input, when you send patches to the two VCOs, they are okay until you go up a few octaves. Then it loses tune as the voltages bump into each other and sum incorrectly. For this case, you have to use the active mixer on the 297 module backward to get the oscillators to stay in tune. By this I mean the control voltage is plugged into the output of the mixer and the two oscillators plugged into the inputs. Weird but it works, telling me the mixer is active both ways. Overall, this is a very handy module and I wish I had room for two.
