Beautiful, enchanting and great for sparking imaginative storytelling

Really nice book with pictures only (ok there is bit of text on the picture of newspaper). Beautifully drawn and nice simple story.

This book has inspired many of my 8 and 9 year old school children, of all ability levels, to write their own narratives. With the help of the inspirational pictures, the children are able to discuss the issues and dilemmas that the characters come across as well as using the details from the pictures to practise characterisation thorough speech and actions. At the end of the book, I have used the newspaper clips as a stimulus for the year 4 children to write their own articles about the adventure. Furthermore, it can also be used to teach persuasive writing by creating an advert for the 'Whale spotting' competition.
