Does it have to be refrigerated after opening?

No refrigeration required. I keep mine in the garage fridge to keep it away from my giant dogs who will find and destroy!

Do they make a smaller amount? Steak product comes in 5 oz bags. I never use up the 10 oz bags.

Yes, they do. But, the steak Nudges I can only get at Walmart. But, Amazon does carry a 5oz bag of Chicken Jerky Cuts. My Gracie & Rene are old, with hardly any teeth, so I still have to cut them into smaller pieces. Gracie is my lady, she has more teeth than Rene. Rene tries to swallow everything whole. The Nudges are just perfect if you need to cut them & the bags have a great seal to keep them fresh.

Does refrigeration extend the shelf life? My dogs love them but it says to use within 30 days of opening--and we don't.

I have purchased this product for years, but have never refrigerated it. There is more than one size available, so purchasing the 10 oz. would probably work best for you. I find that the product does dry out a little if not used within a few weeks, so perhaps, after opening, putting a portion of the contents into another plastic bag with the dessicant packet and keeping it tightly sealed before you're ready to use it would work.
