If you check online the general feeling is that it should be around 2 to 4c. Bacteria starts to grow at temps above 4.5c so a fridge should always be below that temp.

No, the fridge reading should be on the small green area on the right hand side. The fridge temperature should be between 1 to 5 C. If the reading is on the red area it means your fridge is not cold enough.

I bought a few thermometers to make sure of their accuracy and they were all within half a degree of each other including this one.
