How long does the cartride last

I bought a printer January 2018 direct from HP with the 953XL cartridges included by HP and currently in February 2020 the ink is still good with black showing just under half full and all colours just under quarter full after printing near a thousand pages . Printer is not used frequently . Longest period without use was about three months at which time I printed a test sheet to find everything working as it should .

Do these cartridges come boxed and do they have a good expiry date ie at least 18 months ?

The cartridges come in original boxes I ordered before Christmas 2018 and the expiry dates on them are November 2020
