A Guide for Using The Giver in the Classroom

Review from a Homeschooling Mom:This guide is really well thought through, but some of the activities seem so time consuming or even off topic. However, if you are the type who likes a lot of worksheets and projects, then is totally perfect for you... Personally, my daughter and I would rather just have discussions and create our own vocabulary lists.

Used this resource for English 9 Honors class. There are a couple of typos. Otherwise, the activities and lessons are about ninth grade level or lower. It was great to have this resource so I would not have to come up with my own vocab lists, writing activities, discussion questions, etc. This was a great timesaver for a new teacher.

I LOVE this book, and I was so excited to teach it! I purchased this guide because I needed a place to start. It was ok, but honestly, I'm not crazy about it. The quizzes and vocabulary are pretty good, but I was not at all impressed with the activities. I really don't know that I'll be able to use any of them . . . I don't know. It might be worth the purchase for the quizzes, but personally I wouldn't recommend spending the money if you are looking mainly for new activity ideas.

This is a nice book for a unit study on "The Giver". There are lots of different ideas to go along with the reading. It would be particularly useful for a classroom setting since many of the activities are for kids to do together.

I loved this literature guide and will buy more (as I have done). As a home school parent I find using these units is a great tool in making sure my child understands what is being read and has fun activities to go along with what they are reading. Don't know how they would work in a classroom setting but for one on one teaching this was a great addition to our reading curriculum.

I used to teach English and I used this resource to engage my students and to give creative assignments.

Good foundation for lesson plans and ideas for discussions and in-class work while reading the novel

I have always taught in a holistic, themed unit manner and this book provides many of those elements of teaching. I plan on using it with my children very soon, before the movie comes out. I recommend others get this teachers guide and do the same. Great start to learning about The Giver.

Von dieser Lehrerhandreichung bin ich leider sehr (!) enttäuscht. Wenig abwechslungsreich, wenig spannend, keine wirklich anregende Darbietung, zudem sehr viele Aktivitäten, deren Sinn sich mir nicht erschließt und/oder die im Schulalltag nur schwer umsetzbar sind (Material, Platz, ...). Dafür lässt man dann all die spannenden Themen, die sich zum Diskutieren eignen, einfach mal komplett außen vor.Kurzum: Hätte ich mir lieber gespart.Von mir nur 2 Sterne.

Die Arbeitsblätter sind gut einsetzbar. Allerdings erst nach Lektüre einer Kapiteleinheit. Wünschenswert wären Arbeitsblätter zu einzelnen Kapiteln.Selbstverständlich muss man auswählen, was man benötigt. Die negative Kritik von... kann ich nicht nachvollziehen.

Als LHB mit weiteren Anregugungen zu einer UE als Ergänzung gut geeignet. Abs können direkt eingestzt werden. Sinnvolles Ideen für Rollenspiel & direkt umsetzbar.

Very useful! Needed it for a portfolio when I was at uni.
