The 3 gallon capacity yields fifteen 750 ml bottles of wine and is ideal for Selection Speciale kits and for making good use of the unpredictable volumes of juice created from whole fruits. The square shape makes efficient use of space in a refrigerator. Uses either a #10 stopper with airlock, or a Better Bottle PET O-ring Closure and Dry Trap airlock.Better Bottle carboys are: 1) Designed to be strong, scuff resistant, easy to handle, and essentially unbreakable, 2) Pure Taste- and odor-free, BPA-free, DEHP-free, plasticizer-free, 3) Virtually impermeable to oxygen, 4) Extraordinarily easy to wash and sanitize (no brushes necessary), and 5) Clear and colorless. Better Bottle carboys are not at all like other plastic carboys. The special PET, used to make Better Bottle carboys, is non-absorbing, non-porous, and non-wetting (hydrophobic), so it will not carry over flavors from one batch of wine or beer to the next and it is easier to clean and sanitize than glass or other plastics. Better Bottle carboys are ideal for home winemaking and home brewing.**Do not use hot water over 120 F with the Better Bottles. **Design has changed - does not have an attached handle

Lighter alternative to the traditional standard glass carboy.
So much lighter and easier to deal with than the old glass carboys. I still think glass is the gold standard, but no risk o breakage with the better carboys, easy to clean and move around. They are a little pricy for what you get and shipping still was up there because of size not weight. still glad I bought this.

it's Okay
They ARE lighter, but as a trade off you deal with other issues, this may help:Don't move it after filling/capping as the bottle bulges and then contracts, sucking down the sanitizer in the airlock. You can't use a bottle brush due to the risk of scratching the surface, so you must fill and shake the crud out of it or spray... it may be just as clean but makes me wary.Small issue but the stoppers are a different size so if you have a fleet of glass carboys, this is a one off that requires you to purchase new corks. Now that I have this in a couple sizes, I'll use them, but there's just something about solid, heavy duty glass that makes me prefer it since I have no issues hefting them.

I like it a lot!!
I was starting some samples of a variety of wine and beer, you know to see if It turns out to be drinkable... Five gallons seemed a lot to tryout So, I went to a six gallon carboy, then once it fermented, I split it up into 2 three gallon carboys! Brilliant it allowed me to try out different finning techniques, then tried a variety of sweetings on each one. Also these are easy to move, easy to fill, wide mouth need a #10 or 9.5 plug or airlock bung. Much easier than glass. I have washed it out and ready for a third batch, so far, no scratches or ware marks. Nothing but good.

Great for small test batches.
This is great for doing small test batches. Love the big mouth and the weight compared to a glass carboy of the same size.
