King's Field

King's Field, being the father of the Dark Souls games really needs a good review, so here's one for you.In King's Field you play as Alexander who was on a mission to retrieve the holy sword from Melanet, On the way across the harbor they experienced bad weather and the ship struck the rocks and fell apart, Alexander was able to swim to shore. This game play's similar to the first japanese release of "king's field", the kings field im reviewing in technicality is the 2nd release, you could consider Shadow Tower to be the 4th release and TAC to be the 5th release, all the games play very similar, slow and sluggish by today's standards but back in the day this was the best you could get with this level of 3d modeling, one important thing to point out is that this was the very first open world game, there are no loading screens because scene loading is handled while walking toward a location, the way they were able to do this was by having the game engine not render things you weren't looking at, in the early days of playstation emulators this was a big problem with trying to play this game because it would try to render everything and run slow. As for the actual story there isn't really much there other than a brief intro and little bits and pieces you get from talking to all the faceless people. Some of the fights are rather hard but if you keep side stepping you can beat virtually anything in the game by sidestepping behind them, as for the first way to level up in the game is to get the fire magic right away, go back to the part you started and go off to the left and shoot fire balls at the kracken until its head dies, walk away, and come back, the best way to do this is to shoot a fire ball and while he's stunned strike him with your dagger and run back, rinse and repeat. do this until you run out of magic and use the dragon crystal if you picked it up and do it again, by this time you should be level 8 or 9 making the game super easy.

early from software title. these games were pretty divisive when they came out. its a first person dungeon crawler that can be fairly difficult when starting off. story is pretty sparse and there are very few npc's to interact with. this game is all about atmosphere, exploration, and combat, and all of those things are done very well when you consider when this game came out. back in the Ps1 and ps2 era of games this wasn't something that many people were looking for. long intricate plots or cinematic experiences was what everyone was looking for (think final fantasy or Metal gear solid). However, in recent years there has been a movement to focus more on gameplay and actual challenge in video games which is a big reason why From Software's newer games (demon's souls and dark souls) have been met with such praise and success. If you like those newer games then you will like this as well. the focus is more on exploration than combat in the kings field games but they are still very similar to the souls series. Note: also try shadow tower PS1 and eternal ring PS2 in addition to the other king's field games.

It plays very well, the story line is very good, the movement is very easy to handle, reaction time is not slow at all! A lot of places, & people to meet, a lot of weapons, armor, & needed items, such as strength increasers, the same for defense, magic, & poison protection too! There's also a way to travel to one place to another in a very , very short time, like transporting you there! All together, this game spells out, fun time, you have try it , to like, I like to go back all the time to this game, Kings field 1, 2, & 3!
