BBC adaptation of the novel by Jane Austen. Anne Elliot (Amanda Root) has spent years regretting her rejection of Captain Wentworth (Ciarán Hinds)'s marriage proposal. When he returns from sea they meet, but instead of finding romance are kept apart through a series of misunderstandings. Anne is being pursued by her cousin, Mr Elliot (Samuel West), while Wentworth is now regarded as a very eligible bachelor. Will their new circumstances continue to prevent them from reuniting?

Great adaptation
I can’t get enough Austen anyway. This is an older version. I enjoyed the take on the novel. The more recent version is wonderful too. A wonderful way to escape for a couple of hours.

If you have watched the BBC (Colin Firth) Pride and Prejudice then you should watch this...
To be clear, it ain't anything like the Colin Firth P&P but we felt worth a watch. So, imagine the whole of P&P condensed down into just 104 minutes, but without losing any of the plot or the dialogue along the way and this is like that. It is blistering fast, taking no prisoners. Bish, bash, bosh. You are sometimes left thinking what is going on, as it thunders on, requiring you to pause it to metally catch up. I was in need of a lie down afterwards.

Incomparable production. The perfect Persuasion
This is just the most beautiful adaptation of Austen's greatest novel. Heart-rending, brilliantly acted and filmed, so true to the book it's a treasure

A movie to cheer anyone up. Don’t miss!
This is my second favourite movie. The BBC at its very best. Bought this because my VHS cassette broke. Have not watched it yet so am hopeful it’s going to be good quality. The story is by Jane Austen who is a fabulous writer. The acting by everyone is utterly superb. This is Susan Fleetwood’s (sister of Mick Fleetwood of Fleetwood Mac) last movie before she sadly died at only 51.

Jane Austen at her best
Great BBC adaptation of Persuasion, I love Amanda Root as Anne Elliot the put upon sister of Elizabeth & Mary & the brooding naval Captain Wentworth played by Ciaran Hinds as they strive to overcome the social etiqutte of the day, will they get passed her rejection of him 8 1/2 years ago when he had no man money & was according to the Baronet Elliot a man of no consequence. Now the Baronet(played just right by Corin Redgrave) has got his family into debt due to his over spending and their circumstances have to change, Captain Wentworth is now a wealthy young man but is he disposed to look favourably on Anne or has someone else caught his eye. Persuasion shows Jane Austen's maturity as a writer and a woman and her ascerbic wit is at its best.

Beautiful adaptation
This is by far the best version of Persuasion out there. It has quite a starry cast eg Simon Russell Beale but you don't notice them as everything works so well. It's very unglamorous, with natural lighting and looks. No one looks like a beautiful movie star but attractive in a very normal way. The acting is superb and the relationship between Anne (Amanda Root) and Captain Wentworth (Ciaran Hinds) genuinely romantic. You may well shed a tear...

Superbe !
