Wasn't sure, but it really did work. Keeping it...
Smaller than I had imagined, but performed as advertised. I think it's too expensive. At one point I didn't think the device would clone another SSD in standalone mode. I was ready to return it at one point. However it actually completed the task as advertised. The suppled instructions could be improved for an unfamiliar user that's not sure about operational indicators (talking about status lights, etc.). My advice is to get going and walk away for an hour, perhaps two. Your patience will be rewarded. I didn't like the delicate (micro) power switch on rear side of the unit. I did like, in some ways, the multiple country electrical interface attachments supplied for the power transformer. It's a good universal design feature because it should work for customers in any country, but it obviously adds to the price. I have mixed thoughts about this design/marketing feature because I just paid for options I'll never use.

Worked like a charm.
Worked like a charm. I bought this specifically to simplify upgrading my SSDs from 1TB to 4TB. Super fast copies since there is no OS involved. I even had to repeat to process for one drive since it was not bootable after moving the partition (after the fact on the destination PC), so I just re-copied it over and used a different strategy with no issues. I spent much more time backing up my systems preparing for the upgrade than the upgrade itself even having to repeat the one drive. Definitely worth all the time it saved me.

Data security
I had two 1TB SSDs and wanted to clone them. If they are not from the same manufacturer and the exact same megabytes it will not clone. So now looking into CloneZilla to run of a USB device. The unit is nice and you can hook it up to your PC to see the NVME's. 953MB is not the same as 531Mb and thus a no go. If you have NVMEs you eventually need this thing anyway. It is nice to have an fully loaded OS and simply clone it for a backup. If you mess up your drive, you can just replace it with the back up or just clone it understanding the primary and the clone. I also have the duplicator for SSD and hard drives. It got me out of soe many issues.

Great product but needs better active cooling.
Great product but needs better active cooling. Cloned a 500GB M.2 to a 1TB drive in a few minutes. An absolute must for an I.T. Professional.

No Gen 5 support for me. Out side that everything detailed just works.
Can’t get it to work on my gen 5 drives, drives get rather warm. It works for everything else but gen 5 nvmes. Idk 3 to 4 works, 4 to 3 works, 4 to 4 works, 3/4 to 5 no go, and 5 to 5 no go. I thought it would work for nvme Gen5 but I’m guessing not. Kinda lame. That said if you don’t need to clone a gen 5, this works well. However there are cheaper seemingly more reliable options available, so unless you have to use this brand, I’d say it’s not worth the money.

A Must-Have to clone SSD drive to M2 drive
This item worked fantastically. I needed to clone my SDD drive to a M2 drive for a motherboard upgrade on my computer and this docking station worked perfectly. My next step was to convert the M2 drive clone from an mbr boot drive to a gpt boot drive for a GUID installation. With the M2 still installed in the dock, I was able to find the newly cloned drive and make the conversion using Windows mbr2gpt. Bottom line, this docking station was the only way I could clone and make the conversion. Once completed the new motherboard bios was able to read the cloned drive and boot up the computer.

Star Tech Hard Drive Duplicator
For me, this device is FANTASTIC! The actual hours and aggravation it saves a person is eye-opening! It's worth every penny... it's actually worth five to ten times what they charge for it! Putting it another way, it's a real blessing!

Simple to use and extremely fast, the first time I used it to duplicate a drive from a laptop I thought there was a problem it was so fast compared to a sata duplicator Great product I would suggest al techs have this in their tool kit

For a long time I have always purchased startech products as they are the best and most reliable compared to others The only thing I did not like this time is the plain brown box it came in Not startech’s usual quality If you want a reliable product then buy startech I cloned a 512gb to a 1tb drive and it took less than 10 minutes and the 512gb was full very impressive in my mind

Very expensive, but never failed me in cloning NVMEs.

What a fantastic piece of kit. I have made a backup of my entire operating system including game's etc to keep safe in the unfortunate eventuality of my main SSD stick going faulty. 20 minutes, up and running again. Definate must have for any computer enthusiast.
