Buy, read, repeat...
Here's my take:1. Agree with LAS Reviewer on why this is a good but not great read. For me, it's going to be hard to top the masterpiece that is Indigo.2. Can't do mainstream historical romance novels...it's hard to "escape" into the story when you're thinking my ancestors were out in the field while the heroine is fretting over not having a dress to wear to the ball.3. You learn stuff in BJ books. Cool history and facts that lead you to other books and authors you'd never encounter otherwise.4. Ms. Jenkins is the best at her game... and after reading her literary heir apparents, well let's just say, they're not ready yet.5. So like many others, I'll be be waiting Breathless(ly) for the next one and it'll be on buy, read, repeat because a Beverly Jenkins average is better than other writers' best any day.

A Beautiful & Sensual Romance
I absolutely loved Portia and Kent's story. I once again have been exposed to more than just an amazing, sensual romance between two incredible people, but to an education about the life in the wild west in the post reconstruction era. I grew up in Canada and then moved to the USA when I was 22. I took American History, but nothing in those textbooks prepared me for the living, breathing reality of being a person of color in the USA. I was so sheltered. So unbelievably uneducated about the realities. I didn't know what I didn't know. But now I know. But more than that, I have discovered a wealth of amazing stories as a result. Ms. Jenkins is thoughtful, thorough in her research, and honest. Honest about the history and yet the true honesty is in the reality and emotional connections between her characters. Her characters are REAL. They jump off the page and into your heart. The sensuality is incredibly sizzling. The scope of the love between the main characters is inspiring and amazing. I was lost in the story, the setting, the characters, and the incredible synergy between Kent and Portia. Now I must wait very impatiently for Regan's story. A MUST READ.

We make plans and God laughs!
As usual Beverly Jenkins has written a historical romance that I can identify with. A strong female heroine. Portia was abandoned by her unsavory mother along with her younger sister. Thank goodness mothers sister took them in and raise them as her own. Even with that unpleasantness. Portia and her sister attended college and later Portia became a bookkeeper and ran hot aunt and uncle's hotel She also had an unconventional idea of the time she did not want to marry and have children but as fate would have it an old friend changed her mind . That would be Kent. Kent is definitely a alpha male with a soft spot for women. So much so he ended up in jail for having an affair with a married woman in Mexico. But that was several years ago and he's much older now and more wiser .. paths cross is again with his friend Portia both are instantly attracted to each other and eventually find love. I definitely recommend this book to you

Time and time again...
Once again, I am impressed by the quality of writing that Beverly Jenkins constantly delivers. I love how Beverly tells a story, and teaches history at the same time, and doesn't just fill her novels with a lot of sex scenes. She has definitely mastered the art of storytelling.I loved Portia and Kent's story and how he was so patient with her while she accepted the inevitable. Even though Portia was a strong woman, she was also weak because of her past and I loved how Beverly incorporated that into the story, without making Portia a wimpy woman who did not know her own value or worth. All in all, another WONDERFUL love story that I know I will read again.

Uplifting
Portia Carmichael is truly a remarkable woman. Her life has not be an easy one. Thanks to her Aunt Eddy and Uncle Rhine, she has made the most of her circumstances to become a person who inspires respect in everyone she encounters.Portia' story is a tale of what happens when the best laid plans are forced into a new direction by fate and destiny. It is a heartwarming tale of family, determination, hope, and love.Beverly Jenkins has written Portia's story among some of the most interesting and harrowing historical events. As usual she shares you into learning more about culture and history by starting with a wonderful love story.I truly enjoyed Breathless' themes of love, redemption, self-discovery, and familial bounds. I would recommend it without hesitation as part of the Wild West trilogy or as a stand alone. There are no negatives to picking up this book and losing oneself inside its pages.

I don't usually like romance in this era and place, but Beverly Jenkins is always the exception! A wonderful, sweet and sexy romance
