Excellent reference for builders of all levels
Guitarmaking: Tradition and Technology was a recommended book from some of my forums and online groups.Altho a little dated in appearance, with photos that aren't a clear/sharp as I would like, it has all the copy content that counts.I have many reference books on traditional guitar making and this is now top of the list. If you build solid bodies you may still find useful info here as I do.It's a terrific reference at a really low price thus it gets my 5/5!

Would highly recommend both the book and supplier
Book arrived quickly and well packaged. I must say that it is one of the most interesting and well written DIY books I have read. For the would-be luthier, everything is well explained and also covers what to avoid doing and how to rectify it if you do it! Lots of tips included. Would highly recommend both the book and supplier.Fantastic.

The book for any budding guitar builder
Theres a great deal of information in this book which will be useful to both first time makers and those with a little experience of guitar making. Its clear that its been written by those who have made guitars and are aware of potential pitfalls for newcomers. Whilst there are other ways of making guitars which are not covered in this book, I cant think of a better book to give to an aspiring luthier.

complete?
This is a well printed book with plenty of photos and plenty of diagrams. Flicking through, the book was impressive and appeared to be a complete and thorough exposition of guitar design and construction. i bought the book because some of my techniques could improve, particularly the preparation and edging of the top and back. so i turned to soundboard edging first, page 98. The shooting board design included certain design elements i had not thought off - very good. The authors suggest edging both boards together using a splice joint - here my problems start. The shooting board is designed to keep edges square - how are the edges to be beveled? No explanation. No explanation how to shoot the boards straight. If you cannot get them straight you should " devise a strategy" by planing out the high spots/using selective pressure on each stroke. After shooting a thousand tops this is the obvious thing to do - but it does not help me at all. So hardly 'complete' or as one reviewer said a "bible" I dont regret buying this but you may have to look elsewhere for the woodworking/cabinet making skills required to make a good job of the construction

Amazing book!
First, I thought it was a little too much to pay for a book, but when I started reading I just couldn't stop. Considering that the book is just a guide, it is REALLY exciting. A lot of places you stop and think "I did not know this!!". The book is something every guitarist should read, no matter if you want to built your own guitar or not. This book tells you about the complete tools of making a guitar with your hands and manual tools. It is really good and really enjoyable. I will never throw it away, or let it collect dust. It is a treasure to have around! So 3 phrases:BUY IT, READ IT, DO IT!

Very useful
An extremely comprehensive book which leaves no stone unturned. Perhaps a little dated with regard to some of the techniques used - the craft has moved on a bit since this was written - but none the less, a very, very well written book which will answer many questions for the would-be luthier.
