What mm is the chain?

This chain is 8mm thick. Not 6mm as previously answered

Why does the product description say this chain set is plastic? Does that help with sales?

It is steel chain. i think because it has a plastic carcase It is a Strong chain I haven't Brocken it yet

what does the chain weigh?

Haven't weighed them but easily picked up with one hand. These are still heavy duty chains though.

Chain is 8mm think. You can take the shortener hooks off, just remove the pin.
