Can you carry this on your shoulder with the handles only or do you need the crossbody strap for that?

You will need the crossbody strap for carrying on your shoulder. The good news is that the hooks actually hook into the purse straight across from each other rather than at an angle. i am very happy with my carmel colored purse, especially the little wristlet. People think that its a Brahmin!!
