⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5/5 — Poetic, Bittersweet, and Beautifully Unforgettable
Before the Coffee Gets Cold by Toshikazu Kawaguchi is a quiet, magical novel set in a tiny Tokyo café where visitors can travel back in time — but only for as long as their coffee stays warm. The premise is whimsical, yet the stories are deeply human, exploring love, regret, forgiveness, and the fleeting nature of time. The writing has a gentle, almost meditative pace that draws you in and makes you savor each moment. Each character’s journey feels intimate and heartfelt, leaving you with a bittersweet mix of joy and longing. It’s the kind of book that makes you pause, think about the “what ifs” in your own life, and hold your loved ones a little closer.A quiet masterpiece for anyone who enjoys emotional storytelling with a touch of magical realism.

Sweet, simple, whimsical
This book has been all over Instagram specially for January in Japan. I did not read too many reviews before jumping into it with my buddy reader and mostly, I got the impression that people were loving it. I enjoyed the book.I've always been fascinated by the idea of time travel. As a child I would think about all the mistakes I won't repeat if I could tell my younger self. Today, especially after having read the Midnight Library by Matt Haig, I am quite certain that I would make most of those choices again and that is why the rules of the the book's Time Travel made great sense to me. Whatever you do, the present does not change. There are four short stories of people trying to meet somebody from the past for their own mental peace. At the end, the book fully shows the message the author has been trying to communicate all along. Which is living fully in the present with a light heart.Simple language, a tad repetitive occasionally, because I wanted to skip certain parts where the cafe staff were conversing. The events and drama was gripping though I didn't find all the characters compelling, maybe because too much effort was put into making us understand them? The very Japanese feeling in the book made it an interesting reading experience for me. Unusual story and quaint setting.

I received this book in a really good packaging and it was in a great condition
This book has stories. It does not contain any plot or a storyline. It was a good read but not up to the hype. There are really amazing books with good plots and character. So it's a 3 star for me.

A warm read!
Great work by Kawaguchi. Thinking about the past gives you regret and thinking about the future gives you anxiety. Kawaguchi exploits this principle weaving a cozy story to read using a ingenious premise

My Favourite one
Imagine a little cafe tucked away in Tokyo where, if you sit in a particular chair, you can travel in time... but only while your coffee stays warm. That's the magical premise of this book, and through it, we explore themes of love, loss, and the weight of unspoken words.

A beautiful crafted cosy read
~No matter what difficulties people face, they will always have the strength to overcome them. It just takes heart!!✨ “In a small back alley in Tokyo, there is a café that has been serving carefully brewed coffee for more than one hundred years. But this coffee shop offers its customers a unique experience: the chance to travel back in time...” ✨Just finished this heartwarming and thought-provoking read. The intertwined stories of love, loss, and the passage of time left me reflecting on the moments that shape our lives. A beautifully crafted tale that reminds us to cherish every sip and every second.
