A modern look, moisture resistant, brighter light output fixture that consumed less energy which exceeded my expectations!
Bought this Hamilton Hills Flush Mount 12" LED ceiling light to replace a standard bulb fixture in my bathroom. My objectives were to have a more modern look, moisture resistant, brighter light output fixture that consumed less energy. This fixture delivered on all counts, plus it was very inexpensive. It was very easy to install. I only needed a medium size Phillips head screwdriver. Due to the fact that the old fixture was mounted with a cross-bar I did have to remove that as the Hamilton Hills unit mounts using the screw tabs on a standard 4" ceiling outlet box. The instructions did not say what to do with the large translucent "rubber band" that came with the unit. I figured it out - you use the "rubber band" to cover the end of the fixture that contacts the ceiling to keep the edge of the fixture protected from contact and presumably to create a small seal. The "rubber band" was easy enough to put on the end as it has a slight groove and you just press it on. The real trick was keeping the rubber band on while moving the fixture around during installation. I had to stop several times in the process and re-install the "rubber band" so that once the fixture was mounted and i was tightening the screws that the "rubber band was smooth and properly in place on the edge. This was the worst part of the installation - so, all in all, pretty straight-forward if you know how to replace a typical ceiling fixture. Once in place the rubber "band" created a nice seal for the fixture against my textured ceiling. The light output is at least triple that of my old fixture which had a 15w Edison CFL bulb. The Hamilton Hills fixture provides brighter, more evenly distributed light, and consumes much less energy. The installation instructions also didn't include any directions for removing the diffuser lens, but after a couple of minutes I figured out you gently press the lens up a little and twist it. There are 3 small pins or nubs round the edge of the flush mount lens and it just sort of screws on and off. The lens is plastic and I wasn't sure I would like that as I'd have referred a glass one, but now that it's installed the plastic looks fine and I love the light put put and the general appearance of the fixture, so I'm okay with it being plastic. Frankly, I've been surprised at how much a simple inexpensive ceiling fixture like this could make in my bathroom. There are multiple much more expensive fixtures in the bathroom - four 23w LED down lights above the sink/counter and two wall mounted LED sconces with a total of 6 15w LED bulbs in them so this fixture is really not necessary. It is just the one fixture closest to the shower. I never used the old fixture it cast shadows and although it had an "instant on" bulb, like most CFL units, it too it a few minutes to "warm up" in order to provide full light. This Hamilton Hills fixture is truly instant on, no shadows, and much brighter light. I actually like having it on and am for the first time using this fixture. I had no idea how much it would transform my bathroom when I ordered it. Needless to say, I love it. I hope it's durability measures up to it's delivery on all my original objectives. For such a cheap fixture Hamilton Hills has really exceeded my expectations. Before buying this fixture I considered multiple similar units from many sources and manufacturers, some were more than 5 times as expensive - price wasn't a consideration (within reason of course), and I hesitated on buying this unit because it was relatively speaking cheap; however, one week in I'm delighted with the end result.

This light is fanstastic!
Wow, this light is just perfect. I had an old ceiling fixture in a hallway, the kind the hangs down and has a glass globe on it over a standard A19 bulb. I broke the globe while moving furniture and decided "that's it" and looked for something that does not hang down. I found this fixture. It has two wires that come out of it, plus a removable ground wire. I removed the ground wire - my house was built in the 50s and that ceiling box was not metal and there's no ground wire in it. I had to get an adapter from the smaller ceiling box to the 4" box (today's standard) fitting on the fixture but that was no big deal, either. The light took about five minutes to install. The hardest part was keeping the silicone ring "gasket" in place but I'm not even sure that was needed. The light is quite bright - brighter than the 60 watt bulb in the old fixture. I might add a dimmer switch. Now I have a light in that hallway that extends down only about one inch from the ceiling and looks good. I will not smash it ever again by moving furniture through the hall.

Good light with caveats...
Originally purchased an 8" version and liked it so much that i purchased 2 12" versions. Pros: looks good, decent price, good illumination Cons: Only for junction/fixture boxes with 3 1/2 screw spacing. If you have a 2 3/4 screw spacing, you will need to purchase an adapter. So here's the details of my experience. My original purchase of the 8" light was positive outside of the junction box spacing issue. That light was so light that I (don't tell the electrician!) only used one of the screws to mount it. I found installation to be a breeze and the light output was fantastic for my hallway. So, I purchased 2 12" versions for my kitchen...and then the nightmare began. For starters, I ended up going to the hardware store to purchase adapters to mount these lights correctly. (Extra time and cost) Then, I spent the better part of two hours attempting to get the supplied silicon ring to stay on the edge of the light (used to provide a flush mount to the ceiling). Unfortunately, this light's edge seemed a bit banged up and misbent and the silicone ring would not stay on no matter what I tried. (think of that old Christmas song about the frustrated dad testing out his string of lights and you'll get an idea of how I was starting to get). Finally, my daughter offered me her spare two hands to attempt to keep the silicon ring on while I attempted to screw the light into the adapter plate...and just as I was finishing, the silicon ring slipped off the edge.....again! Suffice it to say that at this point, I was on hour 3 of a simple 10 minute light swap and merely threw it some disgusted looks and a couple of curse words (out of earshot of my daughter) and went on with the other light install.....which did take only 10 minutes! So, be warned that the silicon ring may give you issues if your edges are misbent like my errant light. Other than that fiasco, it is a nice looking light that provides very good illumination. Hopefully no-one will notice the partially on/partially off silicon ring on mine!
