Great Boots for Hikers
Needed a new pair of hiking boots after my old ones soles wore down. I caved and treated myself to this expensive pair of Merrell's, and they are very much worth their price. Immediately after trying them on for the first time, I could feel the quality. The support at the ankles, the thickness at the toes, and the lace configuration was already miles ahead of other brands. I wore them over the summer, hiking ~20,000 steps a day over a two-week long period. I was shocked at the lack of blisters I got during the trek in comparison to my other boots, where I was constantly getting hotspots if I didn't wear thick enough socks. I broke them in the month before, but even during that process, they were incredibly comfortable and easy to hike in. They are true to size, but if you hike in winter and need to wear thick or double layered socks, I recommend getting a half size up. Also, I sprayed them with waterproofing spray before wearing outside, so I can't comment on their ability to protect from water on their own. Overall, I am very impressed with these boots, and will repurchase in a couple years when this pair wears down.

Was going to return it, but it grew on me.
Hi, my Keen Targhee 2 hiking boots got snagged and I needed a replacement. I wanted a sturdy boot with good support. I needed less sturdiness, but a lot of support and impact absorption, as I had injured my ankle and needed some "give" and not something so snug. I heard these Merrills were super popular and with less sturdiness and ankle support, exactly what I needed at this time, so gave the Merrills a try. I bought granite as everything else sold out in my size (8 wide) around the holidays. When I first looked at the Color granite, it looked "boring sneakers" (especially with the Blue jeans I wear) and not my typical Brown ones that just screamed "hiking boots" with more flash...what I usually wear. These Granite colored ones looked like very low key sneakers, the other Merrill Colors scream more of typical hiking boot, most especially the Brown ones like "Bungee cord" or "Braken Purple". anyway, I was going to need these boots, most especially to wear on my other uninjured foot to provide some rock solid support and stability. What really pleased me was unlike the Keens, these were so much lighter, almost like I was wearing nothing at all. They are waterproof, and really worked out when I was watering the plants on the patio with a leaky water hose. Because they provided the support, grip (the special Verbam sole did not slip at all anywhere!!), were very lightweight, easy on my overworked foot, and I had to wear them everywhere I walked, I appreciated that the Colors were more muted. So, it worked out well. I was pleasantly surprised and pleased. These are great everyday "shoes" (hiking boots with give on the ankle, that looked like GREAT SHOES with no slippage, great absorption of Impact, and lots of stability), I appreciated being able to wear them everywhere and it provided all the stability, lightweight, waterproof, non-slippage, and Impact absorption. I needed for my overworked...one working foot, as my other foot healed in a cast. I felt no hesistation using these with crutches all the time. After over a month of using the boot so much, it still feels as good as day one. This speaks to the quality of craftmanship. Incredible. Mind you, I never used these boots on the trail. I'm looking forward to in hopefully a few weeks. I will probably walk on a flat trail with minimal rocks, and I'm sure these will work out and be perfectly fine. Thank you Merrill for such fine footwear.

Size up 1/2 size, no break in required but may make your feet hot.
I don't usually write reviews but found other reviews for this helpful and wanted to share. I followed the advice of many of the other reviews and got 1/2 size bigger than my usual. I also have a wide food and was happy to be able to get a pair of wide shoes for hiking. I wore these for a few hours around my house just to see what I thought and they were comfy. I then went on a 5 mile hike this morning. It was a solid hike with about 700 feet of elevation gain here in the Colorado mountains. Like others have said there was zero break in period and no rubs or uncomfortable spots. One thing I will mention is that these boots seem to have made my feet hotter than normal. Maybe because they are waterproof? It isn't a total deal breaker for me though I doubt I will be able to wear these in the dead of summer when it is 100 degrees out. Overall, if you are looking for a solid hiking boot that comes in a variety of sizes, needs no break in period and can deal with possibly having warm feet I would absolutely go for these hiking boots.

Comfy, supportive, AND cute
Love this boot. Very supportive and love the pink pop of color. The toe box is larger than my older merrell's which makes for a much more comfortable hiking experience.

Its not for me - high top boots
I was really excited to purchase my first pair of hiking boots, especially after being recommended this brand and model. When they arrived, everything seemed perfect—comfortable fit, great design, and they felt solid on my first hike. That initial outing went smoothly with no issues at all. However, things changed on the second day. About four miles into the hike, I started experiencing sharp pain where the top of the boot rubbed against the bone just above my ankle. It became extremely uncomfortable, but I was too far in to turn back. I had no choice but to push through the pain for the remainder of the hike, which lasted nearly four hours. Still hopeful, I decided to give the boots another try the next day on a 6.5-mile hike. Unfortunately, the same issue occurred, and by the end, I was practically dragging my leg back to the car. I even tried adding an extra sock for cushioning, but it didn’t help and made things worse. To be clear, the boots themselves are well-made and initially felt very comfortable. But the pressure on that specific part of my ankle has made them unwearable for me. I don’t know if returns are possible after use, but I can’t wear these boots again. I’m really disappointed, as I had high hopes for them.

Good hiking boot
Comfortable, great traction for winter hikes in the woods. Went up a half size as suggested and they fit very well. No break-in necessary

Perfect fit after sizing up!
The quality is excellent, and they provide great support for walking. I’m 5’4” and 130 lbs. I usually wear size 7.5, ordered an 8 first, then returned it and ordered size 8.5 wide, which fits perfectly and feels very comfortable. Very happy with this purchase.

Great Boot Value
Product fits as expected and is a great value. The boots are comfortable and I am looking forward to wearing them to Sedona and Grand Canyon. The are made well and should last me. I like the color and the comfort. The boots were shipped timely and came in new packaging.
