The coarser side is ideal for taking length off the nail (natural or otherwise). The smoother side is great for shaping and buffing and the filing surface is supposed to last many many years. I love it.

Great product but beware - very brittle if accidentally dropped which I did with my previous one.

When it works I really like it, but they seem to be inherently fragile.I bought one and dropped it from about 30 cm onto my kitchen worktop which is just a cheap material not granite or anything and it broke just where the file stops and the handle starts. I thought that was my fault so bought another which i kept in the centre console of my car and I picked it up the other day and it broke in the exact same place. Just normal usage. I don't know if I have been unlucky or they are inherently fragile. I know they're glass but I really haven't treated them badly and I expected they'd be toughened glass.

Arrived broken half so sent back for refundWill order another to see if I have better luck next time

I'm sure this will last for many years. One side is for natural nails, the other side is rougher and for acrylic nails. Personally, I play classical guitar with natural nails, so will only use one side.As far as the resulting finish is concerned, it's very precise and smooth; but I still use the fine side of an Oasis nail shaper to get that final polished and rounded finish I prefer. For natural nail players, I would prefer to see a product with a second side that is able to do the final buff rather than a course side that will never be used.

Extremely effective at removing length from the nail and also at smoothing the edges.

Then buy this, does a really good job. Simply run under a tap to clean.
