This is my first try of a saffron, and it smells like shoe leather. Is it normal?

mine also didn't smell like saffron, perhaps it wasn't fresh , next time try buying from the store like trader joe's or home goods ( I got a great price from Home goods for Spanish or Greek saffron)

Is this really organic? I don't see that on the label. I got the 4 gram size.

Total game changer! Amazing spice!

This saffron is a total game-changer for cooking AND baking! I've never used such a versatile spice. I was looking to make a unique dessert for my family and realized that I could add saffron to cake! I made a milk cake recipe and added a bit of saffron to both the cake and the 'milk' portion of the cake. I was amazed that such a small amount went such a long way.After adding 1 teaspoon of the saffron threads to 1 tablespoon of hot water, the saffron became even more fragrant and vibrant. Not only does the flavor add an extra bit to cooking, the yellow color is a beautiful aesthetic to any recipe.The cake came out flavorful, sweet, and with an extra 'boost' from the saffron. My family loved this and asked when I was going to make it again.I also love that a little goes a long way, as I have tons left over for my next cooking endeavors. You can use this in rice, with meat, in tea, and of course, in dessert!I absolutely recommend this saffron. It came as promised, on time, and created an amazing dish that my family won't stop talking about (which is hard sometimes when you have kids!!).
