Simon and Garfunkel's Greatest Hits

Good remaster. Better than my previous ‘best of’!
Something about my best of Simon &Garfunkel (the cover with them in front of a stone staircase) that I didn’t like, even though a comprehensive double cd of their hits. Ordered this new ‘best of’ firstly on vinyl (bright blue vinyl, and coloured vinyl often gives poorer sound quality than plain black) but it, and the replacement were both unacceptably warped, and so I resorted to the cd version, expecting to be disappointed in the sound quality.Immediately compared the new cd mix of ‘Mrs Robinson’ with the version on my former ‘best of’ and there was no comparison. This later version, though couldn’t find any date of the remaster on the cd, is far better/more engaging, capturing the dynamic shifts better. To you non-audiophiles out there. Yes the mastering is important, and poorly mastered cd’s or vinyl, can rob the listener of the intended engagement/enjoyment, and this is appreciable even on non-high end replay systems- making the difference between an enjoyable experience, and just a listen!

Still Magical After All These Years!!.......
H'mm....first bought this album in the mid-seventies.Its a fine intro' to the huge talent of Simon and Garfunkel. The tracks are gleaned from four of their five original albums and as such are a fair sample of those original albums. That said this is still only a sample and there are many fine songs not included here.Still this album contains all their major hits, from their first 'Sounds of Silence' right through to 'Bridge' and 'The Boxer' off their last album. It gives a good cross section of the different type of songs that Simon was so good at creating. From the isolationist 'I Am A Rock' to the merry 'Cecilia'(a plea to St.Cecilia-patron saint of music to come back and assist in the writing of more music), this album covers all moods. There is not one bad track here but mention must be made of the beautiful 'America' and the smash hit 'Mrs Robinson', both taken off the classic album 'Bookends'.If you enjoy this you should buy the original albums as they are all excellent, even the neglected 'Wednesday Morning 3A.M.'.Yes a good intro' to their music and excellent value at this price.Buy and enjoy...you can't go wrong!!

Great Purchase
I bought this album donkey's years ago on Vinyl but lost it during my many house moves. I meant to get around to buying it again but never did. Ever the Rock Chick, I bought lots of other music but recently purchased this album. It's a brilliant album, a real golden oldie. Bridge Over Troubled Water always brings me to tears but is a real motivator for me when things are going wrong for me, it reminds me that my "dreams are on their way" and I keep going knowing my husband and friends are behind. I've downloaded this on to my MP3 player and listen to it even when I go running and match my pace to whatever is being sang...the miles fly by. Seriously enjoy this album and have introduced my husband to it who had never listened to Simon and Garfunkel but plays it as well now. I don't find it at all scratchy and the live songs still sound like they have been recorded in the studio. One of the best purchases I have ever made and can't believe how long it took me to replace it. What was I thinking?

Much improved audio on the 2011 release
I had the LP in the 70's and then the CD when it was released in the 80's. I decided to buy this hoping that the sound quality would be improved from the 80's CD. I am very happy to say that the audio is amazing. It hasn't been compressed like the previous CD and the audio is crisp and clear. It is a fantastic collection and surprisingly, the live tracks are as good as, or better than the studio recordings. The harmonies on the live version of Homeward Bound are worth the purchase alone. The CD comes in jewel case. The only criticism (and this is why it loses a star) is that the booklet has no additional notes. Only the track listing. The track listing is as follows;1 Mrs. Robinson"2 For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her" (live)3 The Boxer4 The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin' Groovy)" (live)5 The Sound of Silence"6 I Am a Rock"7 Scarborough Fair/Canticle8 Homeward Bound" (live)9 Bridge over Troubled Water10 America11 Kathy's Song" (live)12 El Condor Pasa (If I Could)13 Bookends14 Cecilia

None so Beautiful.
These two New York kids gave us these songs in the 1960s and their magic still captivate us to this very day. What a talent from those so young.
