Q: Can this work in reverse, switching between 2 separate amplifiers and going to just one set of speakers?

in theory it can but be careful as it is possible to have both switches in the on position which connects both speakers together - not a problem with passive speakers but connecting 2 amplifier outputs together can damage the amp.
