How do the blue attachments actually attach to the white bit? They are round & my white pipe thing is oblong!!

Mine has a round tube and the round "nozzles" just push fit to give a good seal. It sounds like your unit is a different design, or maybe faulty.

Can I put it in the dishwasher?

I haven't put mine in the dish washer, I just rinse it out leaving it to dry naturally. I have the temperature strip on the outside so you know the water and salt is the correct temperature to use. If you put that on it definitely wouldn't go in the dishwasher. It's a great product, had no issues at all with mine.
