First Reading Flashcards (Letterland) (Letterland S.) : Wendon, Lyn: desertcart.co.uk: Books Review: Simply Genius - Before you read any further, note that when I bought these Flash Cards, I also purchased the ABC (Letterland Picture Book). I don't know why they don't sell these two items together because one simply doesn't work to its full effect without the other. What can I say about this product? These cards are absolutely brilliant. They should use these in nursery classes at school. By using these cards with the aid of the ABC Letterland Picture Book, my daughter aged three years and four months, learnt the whole alphabet in about 9 days and we didn't even use them every day. It was so much fun watching her taking in all the busy stories in the book. The main characters on each alphabet page in the book are printed on the cards and with the use of these pictures, they cleverly installed the alphabet into her subconscious memory. At first I thought some of the pictures were a little strange or too difficult to learn such as Impy Ink for `I', Quarrelsome Queen for `Q' and Walter Walrus for `W' but I was astounded how quickly she picked them up. The best thing is I didn't have to push her either. Some days we did as little as 10 minutes and some up to 30 minutes. It all depended on how she felt. If she lost interest, I'd put them away and try another day. We did 2 to 3 letters at a time and often more. Each time repeating all of what she'd already learnt before moving on to new letters. After she learnt the unicase letters, it took no time at all for her to match them up to the capitals, again, with the clever use of pictures and letters on one side, and just the letters on the other. Now she is using her phonic skills to read and make simple three letter words such as cat, bat and hat before we move on to the `Vowel' letters which are also provided and supported and smartly illustrated in this pack. There are plenty of tips for parents in the cards and the book to help you with inventive ways to teach your child. For any parent teaching their child the alphabet, these cards along with the ABC Letterland Picture Book are a must have. Review: Instant results from bright characters - I purchased these cards (and accompanying book) after reading some good reviews. Much to my amazement, they really do work a treat. My toddler is 2yrs 7mths old and the day we received them I showed her the first four cards - Annie Apple, Bouncy Ben, Clever Cat and Dippy Duck. We chatted about the characters a few times then I asked her who each one was and what letter it was too and she got every one right! That was in about 10 minutes of looking at them. WOW! The cards are both upper and lower case for each letter. Every card has the letter in black with the picture of the character in/around it on one side and a plain black letter on the other side. There are a few cards with 'Notes to Parents' introducing the cards and the characters and suggestions on how to use the cards including game ideas. You can also use them to build words as your child learns. In fact, I would think that they would be a useful learning aid for quite a while. The cards themselves feel plastic coated so sticky fingers shouldn't be an issue. I would definitely recommend these as a great way to teach your child their ABC.

Fantastic learning cards
I wont take my 2 year old to nursery so we try to teach her what we can at home Cards such as this are fantastic, not only to learn the alphabet but to learn what words begin with the letters, she absolutly loves it and after a few hours can tell you the word on each card from either the picture or colour

A valuable resource for parents with young children.
I learnt with letterland in school 32 years ago, so I know they work :) Our childminder started practicing these with my son 6 months ago and now at only 23 months he can identify all of the letter characters. He corrects me if I say the phonic sound incorrectly too. Combined with the songs, these make a very valuable resource for any parent with young children.

The Letterland flash cards are GREAT. My grandson has enjoyed these cards much more than the ones I had purchased from the store. He enjoys the characters which helped him learn the sounds as well as the letters. I also purchased the cd that has the Letterland songs. This also was well worth the money. Susan
