Gentle but effective removal for antiques
Perfectly and kindly removed old varnish from an antique towel rail. I applied this with an old toothbrush it worked very well, I cleaned and removed it with white spirit and then finished with a light sanding. It's done an amazing job, I highly recommend.

Pretty decent.
Decent product. A little patch in areas but still worked well. Used it on out decking spindles as we wanted to apply oil after moving in and there was sone stubborn paint on there. Happy with the results.

Read the Instructions and it works very well indeed, remember gentleness takes time to work!
I read the instructions and had the time to do the job. I have a small dark varnished orphan from a nest of Ercol tables and I wanted to take this beautiful elm table back to its natural wood colour. I applied a thick gel coat to the underside first (after shaking it thoroughly) and left it for a half hour in a warm room. Time and a bit later I carefully scraped the dark varnish away with an old bank card and was amazed at the beautiful wood grain it revealed the top was treated in the same manner, with the same result. The table was wiped with white spirit to neutralise the gel residue and is now drying for 24 hours ready to be finished, probably with Danish Oil.

Little effect on varnish
I used this to strip varnish from wooden washboards on my boat. It only seemed to affect very thin layers at a time: after three coats there was still a lot of varnish left. In the end I gave up and used a hot air gun, which was much more effective. tTwo other comments. (1) The red top is very complicated to open. (2) The instructions say to use a plastic scraper. Good luck with that. I had to use a lot of pressure on a metal scraper to remove any varnish at all. I did experiment with leaving it for more or less time (20 minutes to three hours) but there wasn't much difference between the two. Overall, better than nothing, but nowhere near as good as a hot air gun on my job at least.

Not recommended
Doesn't really work, takes a lot of time and effort scraping to get paint off. The tin is exceedingly difficult to open and also difficult to get the product out of the tin. Would not recommend.

Good for antique woods and use indoors.
I use this for stripping old gun stocks and so I cant really say how good it is at other things such as paint but its great for what I want. Generally my stocks are about 150 years old and they have a mix of oils, stains, and dirt etc and this really gives a even finish. I dont really go too deep as im not after quality etc but you can really see the difference. Plu I use it in the house and it doesnt make me ill. It has a distinctive smell but I feel that its quite harmless. It doesnt run and works in 30 minutes. After the wood is a little damp and so it needs to dry out but by the next day you can sand it down. I tend to use 2 coats. Im not sure what other strippers do and maybe they do the same thing but I have not been displeased with this. Because im not taking a think coat of paint or varnish off there is little to get rid of but I use dishwashing scourers to clean the gook off after. I do the work in the kitchen with a rag on the floor but really, its not splashy or runny and after I just wash the brush under the tap and its good for next time. I give this 5 stars as I actually enjoy this part of the job, I really feel like I have the right tool. I do recall that it came in super over the top packaging, I think it had several wraps of bubble wrap which is good considering its a chemical. It took me a while to figure out how to open it. I thought you pulled up the flap handles and pulled a spout up and out like on oil cans but all you do is unscrew it. It makes a ratchet sound which is what made me think I was doing it wrong. I dont think the price is too much but considering the age of my items I didnt really want to experiment with cheaper alternatives. Its prety thick and I can see this running out quick if your stripping big things but its lasting plenty for me.

A good paint stripper!
This paint stripper did a good job on a wooden filing cabinet I was renovating. It doesn't smell too bad and was pleased to see it's free from the harmful chemical methylene chloride. Protect your eyes, nose, mouth and skin nonetheless! Only bloody annoying thing is the tiny opening that you can barely pour the stuff out of or get a decent brush into. I opened mine with a tin opener just so I could get to the product. Big design flaw!

Stripped a stained Court Cupboard
This was used on an old Ercol Balaster Court Cupboard after other attempts with a sander failed. It was easy to apply and efficient in removing most of the staining which was nearly black. The odour was tolerable and the cost reasonable so would use again.
