Good except for shipping
Was okay except that the whole side of it was crushed in and I had to pop it out. Though that's really UPS's fault not the seller. Just maybe recommend the seller use a shipping service other than UPS or use better wrapping for it. I popped out the side and there doesn't seem to be any leaks though so that's a plus! We'll see how it holds up once I start a new batch in it.I will say on the plus sides, it's light as heck, which is convenient. Cheaper than a glass carboy, and works well. Just remember to get a bung that fits these jugs, they've got a wide mouth and won't fit most bungs for glass carboys.

Initial thoughts
This is more of a commentary than a review. To the reviewer complaining about the airlock, the issues you had would seem to be more user related. I generally speaking do not move my fermenter once I have found a good spot to store it. I think it's a good rule for a variety of reasons such as oxygenating your fermentation due to the sloshing of your beer while moving it around. If you must handle it then like one gentleman suggested their is a proper way of handling the Carboy that won't generate a vacuum.I'll be back with a review once I've transferred my primary to the Carboy for secondary fermentation.

Chemical Resistant Bottle
I hesitate to tell you what I use this for, but here it is: I strip the ethanol off of gasoline to use the pure gasoline in my lawn equipment, generator and snow blower (the ethanol-loaded gasoline - which is the only thing you can get now - will damage these simpler engines). The process is easy and effective and you can Google it to learn how.You have to be careful that you don't use plastic bottles made of polymers that can be attacked by gasoline. PET (which is what is used to make this bottle) is resistant to gasoline. So; it's tough, chemically resistant, very clear vs some other polymers used in similar bottles (you want it to be clear so you can see the separation line between the gasoline and the ethanol/water) and arrived as promised.

Works
This serves its purpose as a fermentation vessel; however, cleaning requires care. You cannot scrub, lest the plastic get gouged which provides a place for lil critters to live.More importantly, this vessel will deform under the weight of a five gallon batch of brew. If you forget to remove the airlock, even if great care is observed, the jug will deform and suck old water into your clean, contamination-free brew.I like the decreased weight, which is substantial, but for my tastes the rigidity of glass makes it a better choice.

What you actually need to know.
1. This bottle has no cap and those common rubber stoppers that are advertised as "frequently bought with this item" will not fit, what you apparently need is:http://www.amazon.com/Medium-Universal-Carboy-Better-Bottle/dp/B0064ODQ9S/ref=pd_sim_gro_8I know I should have researched more, but would it be too much to ask that you note that your proprietary item will require a bung made specifically for it?2. The shipping cost is a scam, they claim it is 15 pounds and charge accordingly, the whole package weighs 3-4 pounds at most.3. Seeing 15 pounds also made me think this bottle was going to be pretty sturdy, it isn't 15 pounds and it isn't sturdy.I hope it's functional for all the trouble that it is.

Budget friendly fermentor
Easy to clean, moderately priced fermentor. Other than the nice heft of a glass carboy, I can think of no disadvantage to using a PET carboy like this. Mine shipped with a dent that I was concerned would, over time, weaken into a crack. The Amazon partner retailer shipped a replacement in short order. I still have my first glass 6.5 but I anticipate any future carboy purchases will be Better Bottles.

Works as expected
I was in the market for a glass, 5-gallon bottle. Not only is the standard plastic extremely wasteful, causing a huge amount of pollution, but it's also full of harmful chemicals that are leached and then consumed. --- After researching the different products available, I decided to try the Better Bottle Fermenter. The bottles do not contain the harmful chemicals that I'm avoiding by switching to glassware, and the overall weight once full is easier to handle than the heavier glass bottles. I'm not using this product to make wine or beer, I'm only using it for filtered water from a free-standing water filtration station. The Dolphin Water Pump fits perfectly. Together, they are exactly what I was looking for.Dolphin Water Pump:http://www.amazon.com/Dolphin-Manual-Drinking-Water-Pump/dp/B000LXX8H8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1366557012&sr=8-1&keywords=dolphin+water+pump

Light, easy to use, does the job at a fraction of the price of a glass one - but be careful.
It's light, easy to use, decently made, just don't pour SUPER hot water in there, it WILL "melt" and collapse. It was a little surprising to have this happen in a piece of equipment that needs to be sterilized and sanitized so that there is no development of wild yeast or spoilage, but it wasn't so bad we couldn't keep using it, lopsided as it is now.
