Everyone loves the smell on me, they end up buying it

Had never heard of this brand before & was very pleased with my purchase. Great gift for fathers day. Super aroma & lasts long.

This is a dreamy, most heavenly, gorgeous perfume, the fourth Mauboussin perfume I have bought from Amazon. Each perfume is completely unique from the others and each perfume lasts and lasts and really deserves more than five gold stars. My only quibble is the shape of the bottle, again unique, but I have some difficulty getting the top of the bottle off but maybe in due course I’ll get more used to it. Also I have a little difficulty getting the bottle to ‘sit’ right in the box so I can comfortably close the box inner flap and, therefore, close the lid down on the top flap of the box. Wouldn’t let these two ‘difficulties’ put me off one of the most beautiful perfumes I have ever come across.

Strange aroma

I have to confess that the opening notes of Mauboussin were quite a shock! I was transported back to my childhood bedroom in the depths of a 1950s Winter, to my Mum applying Vicks vapour-rub to my chest, and dosing me up with a cherry-flavoured syrup, in an attempt to soothe a troublesome cough (smells are so evocative, aren't they?). I think this medicinal opening is due to a hefty dose of benzoin, and a resinous amber, tempered with a sweet fruity-caramel. That's all rather confusing, because according to Mauboussin the opening notes are supposed to be yellow plum, bergamot and red tangerine! However, after the first ten minutes, the scent evolves and the heart notes reveal jasmine, ylang-ylang, an oriental rose and a beautiful soft vanilla. Finally, the base-notes bring cedar, sandalwood and patchouli to the party, and the overall impression is a heady mix of sweet oriental spiciness which is saved from being either medicinal or gourmand by the soft powdery floral and vanilla notes. It's a highly unusual combination which I'm glad to have discovered in the midst of the short, dreary days of Winter. Too cloying for warm Summer months, I can imagine wearing this in front of a roaring peat-fire which fills the air with its own tarry smokiness - the perfect complement to the scent. Yes, I've fallen head-over-heels in love with Maubousssin and its unique blend of comfort and heady, oriental sophistication, and I think anybody who admires YSL Opium, Dior Poison, Chanel Coco or Guerlain Mitsouko will like it too. But those who prefer a quiet, discreet fragrance should avoid Mauboussin cos the projection and sillage are HUGE - this is definitely one for the extrovert! If you are such a person - or buying a gift for someone who is - then know that it is being offered by Amazon at an incredibly good price. (It is currently selling on the Mauboussin web-site at a much heftier 79 Euros!)

Pleasant enough for daily wear.

Smells like a cheap Chanel n°5 and I can’t stand Chanel n°5. I don’t even want to use it as toilet perfume. Big bottle, lid hard to use, spray is good, design is nice.
