Excellent quality and value Abus 787 wall mounting Key Safe. Recently improved.
PROS: Very solidly made as was hoped for from Abus (their padlocks seem to last outside for ever). No batteries to go flat. Nicely engineered mechanism. Easy to put in the code number of your choice and change that number at any time. Captive hinged lid. Smart but discreet appearance. If anyone gets this off your wall they would be able to break into your house as easily. Anyway, they then have to open the safe, no easy job.CONS: BEFORE TOUCHING make a note of the default code. It arrives with the door open so DON'T play with the code and lock the door accidentally because the door opening instructions with default code are INSIDE the safe !Short fixing screws of the wrong diameter supplied, far smaller than the holes in the case, so you will ideally have to buy some stout ones with wall plugs and drill bit to match.NOTES: Size footprint is a bit smaller than your hand. This box is only suitable for a small bunch of modern keys and there is no hook for the keys but at this size a hook might get in the way. For those not familiar with this type of combination lock, don't forget to scramble the keys after closing.CONCLUSION: I am VERY pleased indeed that I chose this box at £20. No regrets at all and Amazon Free Delivery got it here in a couple of days._____________________________________________________________MAY 2014The first key safe is still working perfectly. Now I had cause to buy another for an infirm relative. It seems ABUS listen to us. This one recently purchased has been improved. It has two easy to use hooks for keys. The screws supplied are fatter. The release lever is now metal not plastic ( nothing wrong with the plastic one).I chose to use my own slightly longer screws with suitable plugs. I always bed them in with a layer of mastic to prevent rain corroding the back or the screws. The only thing which could be improved, especially for those elderly or handicapped, is a better grip surface on the lid, as it can be difficult to grasp especially if wet.

Easy to install
Great product. Easy to install as it comes with the screws needed. Great value and very strong.

Secured by Design (SBD)?
I don't believe this model has been approved by Secured by Design (SBD) quality mark which doesn't mean it is has failed but it just means it doesn't have the approval. It does look very secure and well made though.

Just the job!
Bought one of these to securely store a spare set of keys after I managed to lock myself out (Yes I know, but hands up all those that have managed it). Feels a quality product, I've installed it out of sight so that it doesn't attract any attention, but I don't think it would be easy to break into. Does exactly what I want. Now as long as I don't forget the 4 digit code to unlock it, I should be fine!Updated this review January 2012 as I've just bought a second one for a relatives house. Upgraded the rating to 5 stars (from 4) because the first one is working well, outside in all weathers it still looks and works fine. They're also easy to change the code on. First class product.Nearly 2 years on and these key-safes look and work as good as new despite being in quite an exposed position. October 2013.

Well made and easy to use
I have used a key safe before but I prefer this ABUS 787 Key Garage model. At 4.5" x 3" x 1.5", for those who like imperial, it is fairly compact. A plastic sliding shutter hides the key pad from view. The numbers on the dial are easy to rotate and a small latch is used to open the safe when the correct number is entered. Changing the number is easy to do and instructions are provided inside the safe. the numbers are set to a default value of 0000 so it can be opened on unpacking. There are four screws provided to fit the 4 screw holes in the back plate of the safe. I intend to use the top screws to hold in place a hook to hang my key off. Even a bit of wire with a hook would do. There is not much room in the safe but surely you would only want it for one or two keys. It will take credit card-sized code cards if required. If good quality rawlplugs are used it would be very difficult to prise the safe off a brick wall. Even then the safe is tough enough to resist smashing with hammers etc. to try to get inside to get at the keys. As a biker I am used to the high quality of ABUS security stuff. At this price it is excellent value. I paid £50 for my mother's key safe 10 years ago! "Recommended at the price" as our greatly missed Freddy once sang!

Keep your keys safe and no more worries about being locked out!
The wall mounted key garage is an excellent piece of kit. I have mine screwed to the wall inside the porch and behind a plant pot! The safe uses a key code which you lock in and when you forget your house keys it is no longer a problem! Key in the code with the little toggles, flick down the black switch and ease the safe open. Remove the keys, open the front door and return the keys back to the safe, remembering to turn the toggles to keep your number secret. It makes an ideal gift for family and friends and, more importantly, takes away the worry of leaving your keys indoors with no way to retrieve them.

Looks good and works well!
Received the dreaded Royal Mail "red card" even though I was at home, and had to wait over the weekend for re-delivery.I haven't installed the key safe yet, but I've tried it and it operates without problem. Wallplugs for brick are required and a couple of the nos. are a bit unclear - (choose clear ones for the new combination). Best installed at head height for ease of use, but that makes it more conspicuous. Now installed in sheltered position in porch. I've not needed to access the spare key yet, so I just check it now and again. After 5 months no problems whatsoever.
