The odor of the dead beetles repels other beetles from the trap. Hydrated lime (calcium hydroxide, slaked lime) does not create an odor from dead beetles. CAUTION: Hydrated lime can cause burns to skin. DO NOT INHALE. DO NOT DROP ON BEES. Contact with hydrated lime will KILL BEES and other insects. It works by dehydrating the body of the beetle. Do not spill oil on bees. You can also trap without baiting but it may not be as effective. When full, or no longer needed, just dump the contents and rinse out the trap. DO NOT DUMP the traps near the hives. Dispose of oil or lime in garbage.
