Basic Harp for Beginners

A very good beginner necessity!
Absolutely wonderful for the beginner. The tunes you can achieve does depend on the number of strings on you harp. I've started with 12 which is a baby and a lot of tunes are out of its range. Ideally a 22 string would be best. That said this book is easy to understand and a definite necessity for the beginner.

Fantastic for beginners or those coming back to playing harp
This book is brilliant, I'm re-teaching myself to play harp as I haven't played since I was a teenager. It's got helpful and easy to understand music theory and great exercises to teach you the principles you'll need to learn and practice to be able to move on to complicated pieces. I've not finished the book yet but my confidence is rapidly improving.

Harp music
The music book seems easy to understand for a beginner and helpful. I am enjoying learning to play the songs so far.

Easy to follow
A gift for my sister who has just got her first harp with no musical training whatsoever and this book is very helpful.

Photos
The photos are printed so faintly they are almost impossible to to make sense of . The rest of the book is good.

Harp for total beginners.
Brilliant for a total beginner, this explains it all simply and easily. It doesn't mention how to string or tie knots but that is easily available on the web. I can't wait to progress with this.

Basic harp for beginners.
As a beginner I needed something basic and it is what it says on the tin but it is exactly what I needed. Simple straight forward and easy to follow with helpful guide for non-music readers.

Horrid book!
I read the reviews for beginner harp books most carefully before making a decision on what to buy. The harp I bought from Derwent Harps is a lovely thing and I am determined to learn to play it. I have a little musical knowledge and sing in folk choirs. The book which came with the harp is Harpsicle Harp Method which is quite a good book but it leaps straight in with both hands, both clefs and quickly becomes a bit confusing. This is especially bad because they take away the names of the notes, fingering and brackets after a few pages and you have to spend too much time trying to figure out which finger/hand/clef/timing you are supposed to be doing. I think that one will be useful later on.Basic Harp for Beginners by Laurie Riley however is especially good if you like really fuzzy photographs, lots of finger drills and loads of silly made up 'tunes' which is so unhelpful. If you know what it is supposed to sound like before you start at least it gives you a head start. Most of the tunes in this book I have never heard of.The best book I have bought so far and which is proving to be very helpful and clear is 'Teach Yourself to Play the Folk Harp' by Sylvia Woods. This starts with songs you know and starts with one hand then the other (or both together if you are feeling brave). It then introduces two hands BUT both with the treble clef and then later on introduces the bass clef. The songs are mostly ones I have heard of.In short, I would not recommend this book. Or if you are convinced by other reviews of it I would suggest that you go to a music shop and have a look before you buy.

GREAT. RECOMMEND
Great. Easy understanding, gradual evolution of learning, so that no teacher accompaniment is necessary. I have already started my studies and I already notice progress. I recommend.

Very good beginner's book
And I am a beginner. A 65 year old beginner. I often find beginner's books on things tend to talk down to me, but this one treats the student with respect. I am very happy with this book, working my way through it, and happy with my progress as guided by the book. Five stars without a doubt.
