Can you use these to light a bbq?

Yes. I use them with a chimney starter. Easier than paper, without the odour of firelighters, slightly larger than a similar, cheaper product - best bbq lighters I've found.

How long do they burn for?

I find that they burn for between 5 - 10 minutes. They will ingite kindling every time. I tend to use 3 to get things going.

Do they leave any waxy residue on the grate?

No they don't. The heat of the fire completely burns them up. I have a smal 5 kW fire. I build the fire by lying 2 logs in the bottom of the grate with cut sides uppermost. Lie a flamer on the centre. Only need one of these and about 8 sticks built around it with one or two laid across the middle. A small log on top. Light the flamer. Leave the door open a couple of inches for a few minutes till you can feel a bit of heat through the glass. Then close the door with all vents open for a few more minutes until you have a good blaze going. An excellent product. Never had a fire fail to light!

Can I use them in a ceramic Kamado BBQ grill?

Sorry but I don't know about this grill.
