Comfortable to wear. Really helped me sleep.
Being a light sleeper and living on a busy road, getting a good night's rest has always been a bit of a struggle for me. When I'm asleep, or just as I'm about to nod off, some noisy car or lorry zooms or rubbles past the window and jolts me back awake. Again. And again. And again.I am so pleased (and relieved) that I got these. I have found these little plugs do the job for me, much better than I could have hoped for. They come in individually packaged little boxes as sets of two. They are about 19 mm long and 13 mm across (see photo - pair in the middle) and are made from a sort of soft memory foam, which adapts to the contours of your ear canal when inserted. You need to make sure they are properly fitted (you don't just stuff them in, as I did the first time I used them without looking at the box!). You roll them up between your thumb and fingers until they are thin and then gently insert into your open ear. They then expand in you ear cavity to block out sound). There are even videos on YouTube showing you how to do it. I found it took a bit of trial and error to fit them perfectly (A slight roll between the fingers as I gently inserted them tended to do the trick for me). They didn't block out sound completely (I didn't really expect them to, to be honest), but definitely reduced it significantly and also "dulled" the higher pitched noises too. I found it much easier to get to sleep and stay asleep, once there.I also found an unexpected advantage of using these was, because I knew they worked, I was less anxious about getting to sleep (I wasn't lying there just waiting for the next loud noise to disturb me) so I found I was much more relaxed to begin with when going to bed and so got to sleep even easier!A couple of points. Even though they are very comfortable, even when lying on them, I found it took about a week to get completely used to wearing something in my ear. If you have the same problem, I'd recommend sticking with them, you will quickly get used to them and the reward of a good night's sleep is definitely worth the effort.Wished I tried these years ago.I have also tried two other kinds of foam ear plugs;Firstly; 3M 1100 Earplugs B018RIA3L2 (the left hand pair in the picture). These are made from a slightly smoother feeling "foamy" material than the "1100" type. The have the same diameter as the "classic", but are slightly longer and have a tapered end. I found these just about as effective as keeping the noise out. (5 stars)Secondly; Laser Lite Ear Plugs by Honeywell SNR 35dB Earplugs (B018RIA3L2) (the right hand pair in the picture). I found these okay. While they are made from the softest foam of the three, I found them the least comfortable to wear, for some reason and I didn't think they kept the sound out quite as well for me as the other two types, so 3 stars, for me personally. One final point. Because everyone is different, one of these styles of plug may not work for you, however, I would recommend trying out others until you find the right one for you. I know what it's like to be kept awake. It wears you down. Please keep looking. Don't give up. There are so many different types on the market and the right for you will be out there.

Decent earplugs, good value, but not always very effective!
These foam earplugs are comfortable to wear and easy to use. With clean dry hands just roll into a thin cylinder and carefully push into the ear canal, then hold in place for a minute or two to let the foam expand. They are reasonably effective at significantly reducing annoying low level sounds, but do not fully block louder sounds, and are for domestic not industrial use. Working unorthodox hours I have used this brand or similar for years and never sleep without them. They are best considered as single use but can be re-used from the other end once they have recovered their shape and effectiveness, which takes a long time. Sometimes a brand new one will be ineffective and need replacing, and some worn recently just do not seem very effective so rather disappointing, but they are good value despite these observations. Each of the 20 pairs comes in a little paper wrapper as illustrated. Very pleased to find these on Amazon after paying about £3 per pack of 2 or 3 pairs of this brand or similar at Boots for years - those were probably better quality and more effective.

Easy to fit
I have been using these earplugs for at least 5 years as long as you insert them correctly they exclude around 90% of noise. I’ve tried many others some very expensive but these work the best.

Significantly different, and better, than most
These are noticable different and much better than any earplugs I've tried previously. Most others all seem to be the same or similair, you might've already noticed these are a different shape, but the foam itself is very different too, the way you use them is, and the effect is profound. There's a video somewhere of the correct usage but I can't find it so I'll do my best to explain. The important difference to most other is that the foam is much stiffer - it compresses and decompresses much slower. The key to getting them in right is to roll them really really thin - barely a third of their original diameter, then lift your ear, find the right direction and insert them very very deep. You should only just be able to pinch the end of the tip if they're in right. Also note that if you don't roll them properly and just push them in hard, all it'll do is compress it lengthways, and it'll slowly come out again. For them to work right they need to be rolled very thin so that the tip is very deep inside the ear canal. This stops not only noise coming from the air outside your ears, but it also significantly reduces the noise that is conducted through your body - the latter is the bit that most plugs don't manage. Apparently noises resonate through your bones to the inside of your ear canal, and you need to get it past the point it does this for them to work fully.Once in, it'll take a while for the foam to expand and fully fill all the cavities, about a minute roughly, and only then will the be fully working. (This is the difference to most plugs where the foam expands almost instantly - making it impossible to get them deep enough, so at best they just plug the outer ear.)

Not the same as they used to be
I have been buying these earplugs for a number of years and they have always been very good at blocking sound. A pack of 20 would last at least 6 months, but my most recent purchase was in October 2024 and I have only 3 left nearly 2 months since I bought them. They don't block noise like they used to and I am having to change them more frequently.
