Some people say these are 7 inches, some say 3. What size is this set?

only about three dinosaurs qualify at 7 inches, the rest are between 5-6 inches. slightly disappointing. however, my three year old will likely not care

Would these be suitable for sand play?

My niece and nephew play with them in sand, dirt, mud, water -- they are holding up great!

Suitable for a 1 year old?

No they are not! There are so much chemicals incorporated into the plastic these dinosaurs are made of. I put them in a large zip lock bag and when I opened it the smell was awful. My 3 year old son had a bad allergic reaction to the chemicals and hives all over his body. It wasn’t until I threw the toys away that he got better.

Are these non-toxic? no lead, bpa or pvc

I can't find the box, but not recommended for children who may put them in their mouth. Small sections of tail, arms, etc. could be easily bitten off and cause a choking hazard.
