They take a "universal" round felt like filter approx. 9.35 inches

Do you need to purchase a separate dryer vent filter?

No, a seperate filter isnt necessary. I do however recommend picking up a few extra of the felt lint filters, they get dirty pretty quick and are kinda hard to clean.
