This machine exceeded my expectations for an entry-level machine.
I had high ambitions to buy a much more expensive machine but just couldn't afford it. I settled on this machine and thought the embroidery function would be nice to have. I was absolutely blown away by the quality of this little machine.I use mine for mini quilts, mending clothes, and miscellaneous sewing. I have dabbled with the embroidery functions but I'm still learning that.Compared to my Singer machine from 20 years ago, holy cow. This machine is by far superior. Yes, I know, I'm comparing it to a much older machine but it was "entry level" as well. I absolutely love the speed control, needle down option, automatic needle threader, and the ability to automatically cut the thread. This machine has handled everything I've thrown at it without any issues. I was thoroughly impressed with the motor and how well this little machine handles thick quilt sandwiches. I'm not sure but I believe it has a separate motor for the bobbin winder? Don't quote me on that, maybe double check that but it sounds like it does.Brother thought of everything when designing this machine, down to even the bobbin winder having a thread holder/cutter. The drop in bobbin setup is awesome because it cuts the thread to the proper length it needs. The screen is crisp and easy to read. I performed a software update and it went flawlessly. I really like that they have you download it to a USB thumb drive then install from there. Less of a chance to brick the machine with a bad software update if your wifi drops. The screen is also very responsive to touch and everything is easy to find. The embroider function and available designs out of the box are pretty neat. You can also use the Artspira app to add more designs and transfer them over wifi to your machine. Very cool! You can even transfer your own designs you make or purchase from other shops into the app to transfer them to the machine. Of course you can also just use a USB thumb drive to load designs onto the machine if you'd like. This machine is amazing and I hope to get many years of use out of it. My only complaint is the throat space. Obviously you're not going to be making huge quilts with this machine unless you really like trying to squeeze huge rolls of fabric through the small throat space. You could probably get away with making throw quilts but don't expect this to fully accommodate sewing a king-size quilt obviously. All in all, I fully recommend this machine to anyone. If you're a beginner, it is super beginner friendly.

Great machine once you know what you’re doing!
If you know nothing about sewing, embroidery, etc. then this machine is what you need. There is literally directions all over this machine to show you what to do. You can even view built in directions on the touch screen. Even the pictured button light up green for good and red for bad. It also has built in safety features that don’t allow you to embroider if things aren’t in the right place (besides the bobbin; learned that the hard way).I will say that I have never even used a sewing machine. So, it’s has been about one month since I ordered the machine. I had to learn a lot. Never knew what a bobbin was, presser foot, etc. so I have nothing to compare this machine to.With that in mind, give yourself time to learn. I made plenty of mistakes and had 3 shirts I tested on, over and over. Be patient and learn as you go. Once you get the hang of it, you will love the results!Lastly, if you’re unable to spend another $50-$100 when you buy this machine, I would wait. You will need to order separate materials like colored thread, stabilizer (backing paper), tiny scissors, practice fabric (please do not use a nice shirt until you have multiple successful tests) and possibly, a subscription to the Brother design system. I ended up not using this designer but I still had to pay for it for the month. As a crafter, being able to embroider makes me so happy! I never thought it would be possible!

Easy for beginners and good quality for the price
I’m a beginner embroidery artist. For beginners, this machine is more than enough. It’s fairly light weight, very portable, has lots of good features especially the WiFi connection which gives you a much wider range of options for designs. It’s cool! I was a little nervous to try it out but I’m glad I did and I’m glad I got this model not just a sewing machine. The embroidery is so much easier to do than I thought. I’d suggest just paying a little extra and buying the “package” option which gives you threads and extras . I bought those separately and probably could have saved money buying the combo. The quality is great for the price. It’s functionality is wide ranging.
