Delightful in so many ways - read aloud to children again and again
Delightful. Fell in love with the little girl as she tells the story of how her Popo comes from China to help her make sense of all the "do" and "do nots" related to preparing for and celebrating this holiday. The little girl is real - enthusiastic and engaged but--as revealed in the text and illustrations-- struggles at points because the celebration requires her to "sweep out" bad thoughts even when her toddler brother is annoying her and she sometimes narrowly avoids committing "do nots" like writing with a red ink. (Why not? Red keeps away bad luck in the new year, right? But "writing in red ink means you want that person to go away"!!!) Very touching moments throughout as she engages with her brother and thinks through the many interwoven parts of this holiday. Loh-Hagan has introduced us to a character we will want to meet again while also introducing us to the beautiful aspects and meaning-driven intricacies of this holiday.

PERFECT
Amazing. I was looking for a book to read our 2.5 year old for Chinese New Year, and this was PERFECT. Even though her PoPo can't visit this year, the story mirrors our family (big sister and a baby brother) and provides a fun story from Big Sister's POV learning traditions from PoPo. I'm so glad we found this. The watercolor-style illustrations are lovely. I can't wait to read this to her!

I'm a "PoPo" too, now!
The perfectly worded book illustrated the Chinese New Year traditions so well. It brought back memories of my own mother sharing the same with my daughters, and now I am doing the same with my new granddaughter. Thank-you!

Perfect Chinese New Year Book
I wanted a book to teach my kids about the traditions of Chinese New Year. This was recommended to me by one of my great friends and she was absolutely correct. This book is funny and demonstrates everything I used to do for Chinese New Year when I was young. I am happy to share the traditions through this book with my kids.

Informative and fun
This book follows a little girl as her grandmother arrives from China to teach her all about Chinese New Year.I read this with my 5 year old daughter and I think it was perfect for her age group. It is informative but the girl’s relationship with her baby brother adds a bit of fun too.One thing to note, is that the book is aimed at American audiences. It even says at one point ‘PoPo came all the way from China to celebrate with us in America’ and has at least one American spelling in there too.On the whole, we thought it was a lovely book for any child wanting to learn more about Chinese New Year and we would recommend it.
