Perfect upgrade from my apartments not smart T4.
I live in an apartment which has the cheapest Honeywell T4 non smart/ wifi thermostats installed in the units. I wanted to use Alexa to control my room temp so I bought this for a perfect upgrade. It took less than 10 seconds to install. I just pulled off my old one and pushed in this new T5 and done. Easy 5 minutes to run through the wifi and app setup process and everything worked like a charm. My apartment had the exact same 5 wire pin out on the back so I didn't need to change that, I didn't need to open up the bag of screws or anything. A monkey could have done this upgrade. The touch screen looks really really nice, I can read the clear temp numbers from across my large living room. The app is easy to use and the touch screen is just as simple and easy to figure out. If you are doing an upgrade like myself but your current thermostat wiring is missing the 5th "common" wire, then this model won't work. You would need to get the Z model T6 that comes with batteries for the backup power. They will provide the common wire power. Hope this helps you out.

I could just about drop kick this "smart" POS.
What can I say, it is a thermostat and it looks nice, I bought it for these reasons. I bought it in April of 2023 right after I had a leak repaired and the old thermostat looked very dated in a freshly painted room. It installed very easily and It really does look nice and new in the room. Once up I was pretty happy with it. I set a schedule and that's where the enjoyment stopped. As time went on I began to wonder if I had a leak or something, I had one in the past after all. It would not cool, and the temperature in the house would rise. I'd set it to 71 but the temp would slide degree by degree to 77 (which is what it was scheduled to hit at 11pm) and stay there for the night. Suddenly waking up freezing in the morning. The pillows in the bedroom were muggy and damp intermittently. Some days we'd sit at 77 degrees for no reason. The heat pump is running near 24/7 trying to cool the house.... Luckily I am pretty DIY and troubleshooting for hobby so I bought gauges to monitor my unit and learned what Superheat and subcooling are. I determined that I don't have a leak! So what is it? I have an energy saver cycling box from the power company, I have that taken off, it takes a few weeks for them to do it. but my problem persists! I'm going mad, inject dye to search for leaks? I change filters, etc etc. anything i can. I'm debating draining the unit, perhaps the repair guy put in too much or incompatible oil! I begin to suspect the thermostat, all the internet says it couldn't be the thermostat, no no It could never.. But I say I say you know what let's reset the thing and strip away features. So I did, Reset it, turned off scheduling, wifi, and anything else "smart", got into the special menu and found "adaptive recovery" looked it up and determined this and scheduling were my problems! Because I wanted 72 from 8am to 5pm but the 77 at 11pm. The stupid "smart" algorithm thought that meant I want to be 72 in 8am and for the rest of the day slowly drift to 77 by 11pm and then freeze us half to death at 5am to be 72 again by 8am. If I set my schedule to all 72 degrees it will never leave 72 even on a "hold". I assume because of crap programming that adaptive recovery does not take into account the "hold" or manual input/changes which is bullcrap. I decided to see how badly programmed this algorithm was. I put a schedule on with crazy temperatures like 50F at 8am and 90f at 5am or something. The stupid thing would actually turn the HEAT ON to after 8am so that it be 90F by 11pm even though the cool setting was set to be 50F at that time. what a dumb program. Heating when it should be cooling! I was smart enough to figure this out and disable these features, I won't even use the schedule now Im too afraid too Which is same because I really wanted to let the AC drift off temp at night but its not worth it to trigger the "smart" alogrhtium's stupidity which seems to have the ability to override your manual temperature settings even without being turned on. I see no where to fully disable this "smart" features. I feel bad for anyone that calls HVAC specialists to try to fix these issues and they get talked into the a whole new system because of some programmers' poor programming skills.

an easy DIY to save money and schedule your AC/heat!
i don’t know why it says that this is a frequently returned item, this is a great thermostat. we wanted something fancy, but not too fancy. once you get too fancy, things get too complicated and don’t work as they should... but THIS! this is the perfect fancy, but not too fancy, still easy to use and not complicated - thermostat! i love that i can control it from my phone using the app and set schedules for “away” and “home” times throughout the day to essentially have it not running, etc. it’s a great little unit! it’s also pretty, i love the dark screen and the touch screen. definitely a great and affordable asset to be more energy efficient! install was pretty self explanatory, just follow the prompts and answer the questions in the set up menu on the device. i think you’ll like it!

Does a good job as long as you are willing to have your house connected to a big company's servers
I now have four of these for four zones in my main house. Fairly simple to set up, even simpler to control using the Honeywell app. I don't like the fact that it has to connect to Honeywell's servers to work, but I've gotten over that. However, whenever I lose Internet, I get messages saying they can't connect. Still, having four zones on four different schedules with the ability to override at any time is great. Note: I do not have central air, so I only use these for heating.

Great install experience and then everything went downhill.
Hardware is good. The ease of being able to update from a previous generation without having to muck about with wiring is the high point of this product. You can pop the old one off the wall and put the new one in. That's smart! If only light switches and receptacles were made the same way. However, if you are buying this its probably because want to really make it work for you (automate), and that's unfortunate because you have to deal with their software and their software is terrible. I have never been able to get this onto my network because the initial "sync" failed and now its just in a hung state. Their support is useless and they seem more interested in wasting your time so you will go away, than actually helping you. They ask you for things they don't need to help you and don't understand what it is they're asking for. At no point when I was talking to them did they ask me "What seems to be the problem?" They told me that I needed to go reset my router because I wasn't using 192.168 as my IP range. And at that point, I was 2h into trying to get this thing online and gave up. As someone else said, go get a different product rather than waste your time with this one. If Honeywell were smart, they would invest their money in an open source SmartThings project where their developers would work alongside people who were smarter than them rather than keeping Residio alive and having to deal with cloud infrastructure costs. No one is going to pay for an app in order to run their thermostat so this Residio exercise is just a waste of time and money for them.

Good thermostat, wifi enabled, good value
The box was a little beat up, but the product inside was fine. Works as it should after a little ChatGPT assistance on installation—super helpful resource, by the way! This unit works just as it should through wifi or the touch screen, and has all desired features, though a few options are deeply hidden in the installer-setup menu. I have a few others like it in businesses and rent houses and they all seem to be reliable units of good quality. They are fairly simple and don’t even confuse those who are less technically inclined. Overall, recommended…

Easy install - setup and app are straight forward.
Easy to install, Setup and app are straight forward. Last 24 hours I have been monitoring temps with digital temp gauge and this unit seems to keep very accurate temps. I’m using it on a Navien combi boiler. C-Wire is required for this unit to work. (C-Wire is a common/constant power return from your equipment to this T-Stat, if you don’t have a C-Wire you will need one or an adapter. My Navien has Red, White and Blue wire Blue is my Common or constant power return. The screen is very responsive, Clear & Bright. Black Friday deal 2025 78 dollars.
