The backings is the flexible magnetic material. the front is clear film over the graphics. its decent enough material, Ive left it on my propane smoker and it has held-up fine. Though I only did it one time, caught it mid way through cooking. Hope this helps you. J from Michigan

What temperature can this magnet handle? i want to put it on the outside of my pit barrel cooker, but it can get pretty hot. would this be an issue?

I would be happy to give you some facts and of course, my opinion. The piece is quite attractive and the dimensions are 6 3/4 in width and 8 3/4 in height which I believed would be larger in dimension - this is okay because it is still easy to read. The piece has a solid magnetic base which adheres to steel very well, however not true stainless steel as it isn't magnetic. To answer your question; I would not attach this to a hot surface as the face seems to be made of a soft pliable material - you would certainly curl it on a hot surface. I attached it to the inside of my garage door and I use it for reference - from the door to the grill I think that you can remember the temp settings and I see no need to attach it to the hot side of your smoker, it has no purpose. If you have a pellet smoker with a hopper, and not stainless, you could attach it to the cool side. One problem I have with this chart is I believe that the internal temperature listed on the chart for beef brisket and beef ribs is a bit low, at 195' F. From all my studies watching pit masters on You Tube, they all take it to 200-205' F. At 195' the meat is not through rendering the fibers and may come out still tough - watch Meat Church on YT. Rest until 140' F. Good skill!
